For the fronts? - Swap to disc from a 75 or later model Maverick or from any Granada For the rear? - you need to swap in the entire rear end, not just the axles. Do a little searching around in the forum - there are 100's of threads dealing with swaps.
To add to the last response...if staying with drum brakes up front you can just swap on a set of 5-lug drums from a later Maverick...the spindles are the same. IIRC, the 5 lug drums are larger so you will need the backing plates to go with it.
You Sure? The 71's have the 8 inch rearend, not the 7.25. You sure the axles won't just swap out? From another Maverick that is.
Nope, we've been over this many, many times in the past. The bearings are different I.D./O.D. and the axles themselves have a different diameter where the bearing fits. Not saying it's not possible with machine work or some sort of different bearings, but by time you mess around making it work you may as well of just spent a couple of hours swapping the whole rearend, which is quick and straight forward.
I have a friend that has the complete...front/rear end swap parts for sale. front 5 lug hubs 8" 5-lug rear end let me know if I can help. ...Frank...
I had always heard, like Jamie Miles said, that you can't just swap the axles from a 5 lug Maverick into a 8" housing made for 4 lugs. Therefore, I found a 76 Comet with the 5 lug rear end and just took the whole thing. I think your best bet is to find a 75-77 Maverick/Comet and just take the front brakes and the rear end.
Here is the old thread with the bearing information .............. http://maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=20444
I just put 70 Mustang drum brakes on the frt of mine and a V8 rear end. Didn't Raymond have some re-worked axles to convert a 8" 4 lug rear to 5 lug?
