my lifters from my old cam have a max of about 400 km's on them, cam was a XE268H, switched to XE274, could i re-use them without any problems due to very little wear ?
No not at all a cam establishes a wear pattern on the lifters in just the first few seconds of operation.
i figured as much...told it wouldn't matter before...must have been a chevy guy. Everything else in the motor is new..may as well get new lifters eh..some clown at the local part store today tried to tell me with my engine combo ill be lucky to hit like 280 WHP? i surely the hell hope i'm over 280. Thanks for the reply's everyone.
FYI: this only holds true for flat tappet cams and lifters. With a roller cam and lifters, they can be mixed up without problems
457 you are correct. As said, flat tappet or hydrolic cams need new lifters. Roller cams are interchangeable, but must be hydrolic to hydrolic or solid lifter to solid lifter.JMO
i have reused lifters before...no problems. that's no different than pulling a motor down and using the same cam and installing the lifters in different holes. w/400 KM's i see no problem...to me if they are worn too bad to reuse...they were too cheaply built to have been used to start with...JMO
Sitting on a whole field full of four leaf clover? Because you're one lucky s.o.b. if you haven't wiped out a camshaft by reusing lifters on different lobes or on a new cam. As someone mentioned........roller lifters? Ok. Flat tappets? Hell no.
