I'm not talking about a tube frame full race car, but one that can still be driven daily.

From what I have read here it would see the weight from the factory for a Comet/Maverick with a V8 is around 2600 lbs. {please correct me if I'm wrong}.

So I'm thinking fiberglass hood -30lbs
    Aluminum heads - 50lbs
    Aluminum block -100lbs
    Forged aluminum wheels -50lbs
    Rear seat delete - ???
    Fiberglass fenders -20/30lbs

I would keep the AC, heat, and aftermarket stereo.

What else could be deleted, and what would the final weight be?

Could also do a fiberglass trunk. they do sell them...same w/ doors and bumpers...but then it wouldn't really be street-able with those doors and bumpers.

Think they weighed a lot more that 2600 lbs from the factory. I just got my '72 2-door weighed today. 3000 lbs even. And that's with alum heads, intake, and radiator. Shortie headers rather than iron manifolds, Front disks rather than drums, bucket seats that are lighter than the orig bench, alum Sanden compressor rather than the iron York. Only weight adders I can think of are Cragar wheels, traction bars, and rear sway bar.

Why worry about weight if your gonna have heat and a/c????? Luxury and light weight do not go together.

all thow its a good idea ill agree with joe dirt on this one. i would sacrafice the ac/heat and run factory fenders, there safer on the street.pluss fiberglass fenders are tons of work and once the sun hits a painted metal car with fiberglass fenders the paint allways fades faster on fiberglass then metal and it looks horable in my op.

There is alot of weight threads in the drag racing section sky is the limit and as deep as your bank account will go. Lots of weight to be lossed just matters how far your willing to go.

Off top of my head not already mentioned would be....
    door bars or early doors
    aluminum or carbon fiber dash
    plexi windows
AJE tubular k and control arms
    fiberglass bumpers
    1 racing seat
fuel tank swapped for fuel cell
    sound deadening removed
    light weight battery
    strange brakes
    etc,etc,etc,etc........

Sub 2500lbs with average driver and still "streetable"( very loose term from one person to another) is doable in my opinion as long as your bank accounts are deep enough

And as far as fiberglass parts, look at corvettes :-/

This lists curb weights for different years and models, but best to just find a truck scale in your area and check your own car. Not sure how accurate the info is

Are we looking at unsprung weight like wheels and tires? I also am not sure safety is a factor or a concern when trying to go lighter. Not saying get rid of the belts either..

Lightest weight? Probably a 70 with a 170 with no AC and a 3 speed manual! I've ripped just about everything out of my Comet that wasn't necessary, switched to an aluminum manifold, radiator, took out the in dash AC unit, moved the battery to the back.... I could probably FIT in the wheel gap in the front now! Once I get those gt40x heads I'll probably be another 20-30 lbs lighter! The car is completely gutted with 4 bucket seats.

That is pretty light. I would guess that an aluminum 302 block, and heads would be close to the weight of the I6.

Throw in fiberglass hood, trunk lid, light weight seats, remove the rear seat, forged aluminum wheels, tubular front end, should get it close to 2400lbs, or lower which is quite light.

All of the above is doable except for the aluminum block, but you might be able to find one reasonably priced, used.
