    Oh yes. It's a consuming hobby, and profession really. My gear setup is about $3k, and it's not even 'special' by today's camera elitist standards. Though I'm partial to film, and enjoy black and white with my 1964 Asahi Pentax 35mm.

    You actually COULD grab yourself a gently used D40x camera for about $300, and then invest in a nice compact wide angle lens and definitely start unfolding technical and stylistic skills in the artform. Always better to invest a little and decide if it's your cup of tea before dropping the fat stacks. Especially since camera's, a little like cars, tend to depreciate faster than a jackrabbit on a hot date.
