I have the 1977 Ford Taxi Cab brochure. This would include the Ford LTD, LTD II, and the Maverick. Here is what it lists for a Ford Maverick. Maverick Taxicab Package The Maverick Taxicab Package is available on the 4-door sedan model and includes the following items as standard equipment: - Automatic Transmission with First Gear Lock-Out - Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler (Externally Mounted) - Five-Strand Roof Light Wiring (Holes in Roof on Request) - Heavy-Duty 60-Ampere-Hour Battery (Includes Heat Shield) - Heavy-Duty Alternator - 60 Ampere - Heavy-Duty Suspension - Power Steeting with Oil Cooler - Coolant Recovery System - Two-inch Rear Brakes with Flared-Drums - Extra Cooling Package - Transistorized Voltage Regulator - Accessory Feed Connection - Rear Door Courtesy Lamp Switches - Deluxe Sound Package - Heavy-Duty Front Seat - Heavy-Duty Rear Seat - Assist Straps on RH and LH Center Pillar - Black Carpeting - C78 x 14 Bias Ply Tires - 14 x 6-inch Wheels It also lists the motor as a 250-6 cyl. Rear axle ratio of 2.79:1
Wow, that's pretty cool!!! I could just imagine one in yellow, with steel wheels with little hub caps....
Very interesting....but at first I thought why would the "Taxi" cab extras be the same as the "Police Package", but after reading what they came with I can see some useful edtions. Wonder if those items listed can be found?
My guess would be a preventive measure to keep aggressive taxi drivers from throwing the trans into 1st to slow down, and breaking transmissions.
Probably figured if horsepower for pusuit was desired, they would order a full-size with a big block.
Some of these items I have never heard of or never seen (Rear door courtesy lamp switches, assist straps on RH and LH center pillar, etc). Who knows if any were ever ordered.
Well, allow me to take a stab at this: I believe the "Coolant Recovery System" recovers any coolant that may be in need of recovery. Coolant that is in no need of recovery does not and will not be recovered.
