I am finding it hard to believe how far off my rear wheels and tires are.. 4 1/4 back space and a 255/60/15 and can't even bolt them up..ugh The bump stop has to be trimmed back at least an inch, and how close is to close for the tire and leaf spring clearance ? I have maybe 1/4 inch...

I'm comfortable with at least 3/8".

For a 255 you should have gone with 4" backspacing.

If your studs are long enough you could always try a .25" spacer.

There actually 4 1/2 Back space with a 1/4 inch spacer... I did a ton of research on this subject and was sure a 4.5 with a .25 spacer would work.. I downsized the tires I was going to use a 275..lol.. I'm going to trim the tab off the bump stop and pick up a set of 5/16 spacers thats all I can find local, we'll see how it go's... I will update this tomorrow afternoon wish me luck :)

    How wide are the wheels?

That affects how the tire sits as well.

8" should be perfect for that size, hopefully they'll fit with the spacers.

    Good luck (y)

I have 255's on the rear. I have 3/8 clearance between the sidewall and the non rolled fender and 1/2 between tire and springs.

I have plenty of clearance on the outside, my tire is hitting the tab that sticks out past the bump stop until I fix that I'm not 100% sure what my tire to spring clearance will be looks really close tho...

I'll have to look it up tomorrow. I have a custom width 9" rear along with a custom backspace with the wheels... can't remember the #'s right now

I have a 9" rear that's 1" narrower than the stock 8" rear and 15 x 10s' with a 5" backspace, with 295 tires and everything clears the springs nicely by a half to 3/4 inch. 1/4" is way too close. I can't see how you have a problem with 255's and 8" wheels.

I'm going to double check the back space on the wheel... I have a 8" stock rear the tag says its from a 1977.. The wheel is a 15X8 Greg Weld Prolite...

Ya I don't get it.. The one thing I just thought about is, the car is sitting on jack stands so the rear is just hanging there on the new 4 leaf springs.. That couldn't be my problem or could it ?

Joe mine are 4.5 backspace and I tried a .25 spacer...
