I'm replacing lifters on my 250 engine and I notice they are in a very small compartment. My question is how do I remove them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Get a strong flexible magnetic pickup tool from autozone, around ten -eleven bucks, they will come right out, soak the new ones in motor oil overnight so they will be pumped up

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I'm going to do a cam swap on the 200 pretty soon, but should the lifters be soaked???

I've always done it on 302's, but classic inlines says not to do it :hmmm:

The main reason for this is that when you reinstall the rocker arm shaft you may push some of the valves down on the pistons. The lifters are at their maximum travel and so will push some of the valves open further than normal. I always put my rocker shaft on keeping the space to the head even on the all the mount posts. Ease it down a turn or two at a time on the bolts and pause for a minute before going again. This will give the lifters time to leak down to the proper height! I have filled mine with oil for 40yrs and never had a problem yet doing it this way!:)

i've heard this for years...just how does...soaking them... pump them up...
i collapse mine, put them in oil and as the spring returnes to full extention, it fills the lifter...
...soaking them without collapsing first does nothing...but make oily lifter bodies...:yup:

yes torque the rocker arm down gradually so the lifters will won't do what simple man says, make sure to lube both ends of the pushrods and that they go back where they was taken out if reusing original parts, the only thing it does is fill the lifter with oil if they set overnight,I am lazy and do not feel like collapsing the lifter,if you are poor when you fire the engine up spin it with the starter with the coil wire off, same thing as priming the engine with a special tool, everyone has an opinion when it comes to building engines, just rebuilt a 250 six and it runs just fine ,I am old I do stuff like Iwas taught 30 years ago

if you don't collapse the lifter to get the old oil out it will already be full of oil...soaking them can't put anymore in...

Lifters are new. Once I install new lifters ,these lifters are self adjusted so bolts have to be tight to max. Right? Or do I have to rotate the pistons and retight before starting engine. Sorry but I haven't done this in years.

just put the rocker arm on ,torque it to spec, you will be fine, put assembly lube or oil on everything when you put it together, since everyone has confused you with oil and lifter opinions ,take the coil wire off ,do not give it any gas ,spin it a few times and the lifters will pump up and self adjust .the lifters may chatter, they may not it depends on who you feel like listening to.oil or assembly lube on parts when you put an engine together will not hurt anything,in fact if it is not lubed you will not last long or go very far:sarcasticclap:

Trying to remove old lifters but I notice that the lifter won't go down so I can put tool in (Lifter removing tool) does my motor (250 engine) have solid lifter cause the old lifter doesn't spring down like the new ones?
