Can someone tell me what (approximately) a 1977 Maverick 2dr without an engine or transmission weighs? I just bought another car and I'm wondering if my little ranger has the cojones to tow a dolly and the maverick a couple hundred miles, or if I should just rent a full size truck.
    Thanks
    :tiphat:

I don't think you'll have a problem. Just make sure you leave enough room to stop with the extra weight. :)

I burned the clutch up in my 85 Ranger 4X4 pulling a 69 Boss Mustang without an engine from my house to the windshield shop, about a 12 mile round trip. The trailer weighed more than the Mustang tho. You could easily haul a JD 450 on the trailer.

I used an Explorer Sport Trac to tow an EXP on a dolly over 150 miles no problem. If it's an automatic, make sure you disengage the overdrive. 5sp, just run in 4th and leave plenty of room to stop.

To answer your question tho, about 2500lbs on the heavy side with no engine or trans.

I sold a comet about 5 years ago and it was complete, the guy left with it using a 4cylinder 5 speed new model ranger. when I sold my 93 civic the new owner used a car dolly and a ranger I believe

What? Is that a typo? I can't imagine any version of a Maverick weighing that much!

Gross weight is what the vehicle should not go over when it is fully loaded. That's why you can get an over weight ticket in a pick-up truck in North Carolina (depending on what you're hauling), without a weighted license tag on the truck. Same sinario with dump trucks and tractor trailers. You have a "tare" (empty) empty, and a "gross" (loaded) weight.

I couldn't believe it when I read it but the door pillar sticker on my 77 LDO reads 4100 lbs my 70 is 2700 lbs thats all that safety stuff to save us from our selves plus this has power steering power brakes the bucket seats are twice as heavy as the 70.
