They are illegal in Washington State - so are the cable operated cut-outs. The only ones that are legal in wA. are the bolt on plates. You can't open the exhaust while inside the car.
It is a bummer but...Unless the car/engine is optimized to run with an open exhaust system...It just sounds cool but will hinder power production.
oh I had no idea...If i can get em' shipped to me...Im puttin them on. I dont wanna deal with the bolt on. thats a hassle and then I wouldn't be able to easily dump the exhaust as I pull into school...what makes them illegal anyways!?!?!
it the loud(awesome) amounts of noise they make lol,if you have inspections would be the only time id be worried and you could get a ticket if a cop catchs u using them.
I figured on the noise thing but I thought Paul was meaning you can't even buy them around here haha my bad Im only going to use them at particular times...like school and maybe downtown first street when its sunny
They are Illegal here in CA too, But summit had no problem selling one to me lol I got the Mr. Gasket Cable kind, its pretty crappy. It didn't even seal from day one! So I ended up using it as a muffler selector on the 200. I can switch from a Flowmaster to a Cherrybomb Tubo II with just the pull/push of a cable As long as you don't do something stupid Cops will never check your exhaust....at least down here they don't. They give Import guys so much crap for their exhausts, but they never pester Domestic guys haha.
I had the cable ones before. Yes, LOUD lol. It would get the older people looking around like as if they were scared. Definetly grabs attention. They were alot of trouble to keep closed and they leaked so I took them off. If the caped ones would be a quick on and off then I might would consider them again. Just wouldn't be as fun..
For $300.00 just for the electric cut out valves alone then add the cost of a couple y pipes. If I wanted to uncap the headers I would just do a y pipe and bring it clear to the outside of car and plate at end with some wing nuts on it, quick and easy to uncap. The cable operated cut outs are not worth spending money on. If I was looking for something to invest money on in your car I would get some sort of trac locand installing those gears you have laying around. Nothing like looking in the mirror and seeing 2 black strips of rubber Note I do not promote the unlawful distrubution of rubber upon our city streets and highways and especially street racing.
Spend your hard earned money on something to help the car. Anyone I know with cut outs took them off. They leak and sound terrible. For the track use bolt on plates that wont leak. I know guys with manual and electric cut outs. They both leaked from day one. Car dont sound so cool with exhaust leaks that sound like bad lifters. Just some friendly advice.
Thanks for the advice guys! hmmm I like that idea... thanks mike! and as for the warning..got that one noted alright! thanks! choices choices choices...
There's always the poor mans method also. Use a Throttle body, with a Window regulator motor to make it electric
On a serious note here's the cheapest i've seen: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/On3P...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b8cfdc4c A bunch of guys over on the Import Forum are using these
Damn thats ugly. Sure wouldnt want to be behind that goober when it fell off. Hey you could even use the TPS for feedback to monitor the position for optimum tuning.
