I have a question that has been nagging me....I have read more than once that Mavericks never came with a 4V carb setup from the factory, what has been nagging my mind is that, back in the early 80's I was cruising around town and spotted a Maverick sitting in some weeds with vines growing all over it, I stopped at the nearest house and knocked on the door, a young lady answered the door and I inquired about the Maverick, she stated it was her grandmothers car whom had passed and has been sitting there for quite a bit, I asked if the car would possibly be for sale and she asked how much would I pay, I told her whatever she thought was fair...well to make a long story short I bought the car for $100.00.
Now this was a 1975 Maverick Grabber it had power steering, power brakes, factory A/C, automatic trans and a 302 with a 4V carb on it, it looked to be all original, the car would not run, it would crank over but not run, I wound up getting another engine for it....but it had a 4V carb!! did they really not put any 4V carbs on Mavericks or could it have been an option that was ordered from the factory? this car was loaded with all the options it could have including the original Maverick alloy rims with the Maverick center caps, car was originally yellow with black stripes.
I really wish I had pics and or numbers from it but all of that was lost long ago.

Yes Frank the car was in fantastic condition, with the exception of the engine not running, the lady went with me to a pawn shop to get the title notarized and as soon as I gave her the money, she turned to the pawn owner and said "I want to buy a gun"....I quickly exited and went to drag the Maverick home, just aired up the tires and my dad helped me pull it the three miles home.
That was not the best deal I have ever got on a Maverick Grabber, I bought a 1972 Grabber for $50.00 that had just ran out of gas while being chased by the cops!
It had a 302, floor shift with highback buckets and I put gas in it and drove it home from the towing company auction.

No such thing as a FACTORY 4V Maverick.

Do not, I repeat, do not put any stock in the picture posted by dmhines. That car was beautifully restored by DMH Manufacturing, not Ford Motor Corporation. DMH built what Ford should have built. :tiphat:

Thank goodness that myth has been cleared up ... with pictures to prove it!

Now back to that "is a Maverick a muscle car" poll, I need to revise my vote!

But that doesn't mean that a dealer couldn't have installed one....

Very much so. I had salesman friends that would have the mechanics "soup" up their personal demo units to impress prospective buyers. I wonder if that is how the little old lady ended up with a 4bbl ......... :p

My Grabber is going to be getting the 71' 302 with 4 barrel also.

Here are a couple of pics of my restored air breather for it:
