Bought a carb from Guaranteed Carburetors, great company. Have had no problems with there carbs to date. The car starts fine, choke works, not vacuum leaks, vent tube not blocked. Motorcraft two barrel in case anyone needs to know. Here is the problem. When the car runs for about 40 min it acts like it is flooding. I have to hold the pedal to the floor to clear the engine. I have watched the car while aircleaner is off and when i pull thottle cable back it dumps fuel, but the car doesnt react. Vacuum lines are connected correctly, no apparent leaks at base plate. I thought the carb may have been getting to hot so i put a riser on it ... no luck. I has original points, checked gap. its good. I do need to do a tune up and check timing. Could it be timing?? or maybe an ignition problem?? please help a guy if you can..

well, orignal 40 year old points is a problem. points need to be replaced frequently. chance are your points are so worn out that your spark is soo weak that its not up to the task of lighting off a the air fuel charge. when you give the motor some throttle it takes more spark energy to light it off. do an eletronic conversion to get rid of the points and a new coil would be a good idea.

Points have to be replaced every one to two years and they have to be correctly set. You also have to time the engine when they are replaced. If you are like most and tune your engine every year then it is all part of the tune up.
You are going to have to do a little diagnostics here.
How did the engine run before you install the carb?
What did you change along with the carb?
    Those are your first suspects.

If driven daily, points should be adjusted every 6 months at a minimum. Replaced every year. Or replace it all with an electronic module and be done with all that BS for good.

    Baddad,
If good parts are used, set up properly and the distributor is in good shape the points will stay within specs for two years. I have been doing it for most of my life (60 now) and never had a problem in a two year span. If I am tuning someone else's car I warrant it for a year. Never had a comeback on a Ford yet.

I've never had a set of points last two years of DAILY DRIVING USE. And I've used the best of em. Points are good for the eventuality of an EMP attack, but little else. Especially since very few people know how to set em any more.;)

I have points in two of my cars (daily drivers) that have been in use for over a year and a half right now.... They are "Blue Point" that were adjusted to 18* dwell when installed. The breaker cam was cleaned and lubed on installation and the felt wick on the points was lubed with 10w-40.
I am sorry to hear that you don't get the same service from yours.

I quit points when I discovered Pertronix. Ain't never looked back either. I'm into multiple carb setups, these and points ignitions are a poor match for each other. Points are the reason multiple carb setups got the reputation for needing endless adjustments. It wasn't the carbs that got out of tune, it was the points all along. I tuned the 3x2's on my 331 about 6-7 years ago, they've been set the same way ever since. Only time I've taken em apart was to go up in jet sizes after installing 1" spacers under the carbs.

I order an electronic set up ... we will see if that fixes it.. the car ran before though I never saw it.. the quy previous to me bustes off a fuel filter in the carb thas why it ended up with a new one.. but it was his daily driver... nothing else has been relplaced.. still has points the old blue valve covers and air cleaner( the one with the sticker that says 302 2v) thanks for the advice I will time it today and check points again until my electronic ignition comes in..
