Anybody know if Ford had different colors on the upper windshield tint based on the car or interior specs? My 73 LDO has a nice brownish/amber tint at the top that seems to match up perfect with my factory exterior and interior colors. I can't remember seeing and haven't had the chance to compare what the tint colors are on other cars.
Interesting question. I too have definitely noticed different colors in cars I have parted out. I have 4 windshields in my basement and I just went and looked at them. 2 of them have a greenish tint overall and have a dark brownish amber top tint band. The other 2 have a lighter blueish color overall and a darker blue top tint band. A/C perhaps?
Thought I would look at the codes and see if there is a different part number. There is, but not for the color differences ..... So it probably is just an aging of the natural tinting that causes the color to change. My browns are not faded. If anything, they are darker than the blue .......... All are original CARLITE SUN VISOR / SUN-X glass Blues April 1969 - W-727 May 1974 - W-797 Browns November 1971 - W-797 February 1972 - W-797
I'd be willing to guess that somebody at Ford made the choice on the tint color based on paint code and/or interior color choices. I just couldn't imagine my brown tinted glass looking right on a red, blue or silver car. I think interior option was only Tawny Tan on any LDO model. Could it be the browns were just installed on LDO's?
Don't know about fading but when I got my '72 Sprint, the windshield had an amber colored tint. Was glad that the replacement windshield had blue tinting that goes well with the blue/white paint.
It has to be faded, mine is also an amber color while 5 of Raymonds cars are "blue" to amber. I HATE IT!!!!
I asked my glass guy, since the one in my 73 Grabber, was greenish. He said they are blue, and were always blue, they just fade. Look around the edges covered by the gasket....
Mystery solved! Picture is hard to see, but you can definately see under the gasket a nice blue, and the rest is amber brown. So what do we call this, patena tint? Thanks Dave for clearing up the mystery!
If it fades to brown I guess I lucked out on my taste and how the amber/brown ended up working great with my 9c (pearl white) and LDO tan interior. I couldn't have planned it better. ..........BLIND PIG!
