:) For those of you to young or who are not aviation buffs too, these pictures are what I'm talking about. I’m sure you all know the storey about car designers and engineers of the 1950’s being inspired by the tail sections and wings of the WW II bombers for our finned cars of the 1950’s. The 71-72 Maverick Grabber hood was different, it’s my personal belief its creator had read about how the fins on cars of the fifties were inspired by the bombers of WW II and thought Hey why not an engine cowl. I almost feel like I’m in an ME-109 when I get in my Maverick those two bumps sure resemble the ME-109's two cowl gun ports. Have you folks given it any thought?

:) Yeah quit a few planes had cowl guns but the ME 109's cowl is more rounded like the MAV's even the 109's sister ship the Kawasaki KI-61 Hein I don’t think were as rounded. Hop in your cars boys especially those with bench seats see if you feel it too. Yeah, I can see the distinct ridges of the gun barrels on the P-40 too! Don't the flat out call both things on the front bumpers of 63 Comet gunsights?

My dad's 63 Comet had those with the plus sign/cross hair where the round ball in your picture I'm sure it was a 63 not 62 Comet.

'Round Christmas time this place was dead. Definitely not much conversation to be had... I applaud your effort to start a thought-provoking thread!

Now... As for all that, I'm not totally convinced that the designer(s) of the Grabber hood were inspired by the ME-109's gun ports, although it's certainly a plausible idea. But you have utterly convinced me that someone needs to mount some guns in a Grabber hood. It has bothered me relentlessly that there's no good way to make the Grabber hood functional. Scoops need to do something. Purely decorative scoops are like stuffing a sock in your underwear. The scoops in a Grabber hood are too small to do any good for the engine. But guns? Oh yes. Bring on the post-apocalyptic dystopian future.

I discovered some time ago that the 83-85 Mustang GT air cleaner's dual snorkels end right below the scoops. When you attach the snorkels upside down to the cleaner housing they angle up and sit right under them :) Unfortunately the strut tower brace hits the air cleaner housing. Now the 82 5.0 GT dual snorkel cleaner had a smaller diameter Hmmmm.

Yeah my dads 61 comet has those too always thought they were pretty cool crosshairs, when my sister went to weber (pronounced wee-ber round here unlike the rest of the world) highschool we always joked that she was targeting her next victim with those things.

and to rthomas they are actually crosshairs on the comets but yes they are very similar to the fords.
