Get a set of "Clevor" headers - I don't believe the Boss 302 headers will work on the cleveland heads.
They will, they're the same heads. Original Boss 302 heads are no different on the exhaust face than a 4 bbl Cleveland head. Now you may have problems sealing them on 2 bbl heads. I know the 4 bbl Cleveland iron manifolds didn't seal when used on 2 bbl heads, never tried 4 bbl headers on 2 bbl heads.
Yea, I know. We swapped heads on a 71 Torino way back when and found out the 4 bbl manifolds don't work on 2 bbl heads.
They will work fine on 4v Cleveland heads, but most folks that build 302 Clevors use 2v heads. You have to order Boss 302 headers with 2v flanges fitted in place of the 4v flanges. Cleveland headers won't work when it comes to chassis design. They will bolt to Boss or Clevor heads just fine (as they are Cleveland heads), but the shorter 302 deck height will keep 351c headers from fitting the car itself properly. Otherwise 351c 4v and Boss 302 headers would be the same part. Again... Tubular will put whatever flange, 2v or 4v, you want on their Cleveland/Boss headers. Just gotta tell them which you want. They will also adjust the tube size if you prefer. They can't go up in size much, but I imagine they can go down in tube size a few increments.
Headers won't seal either. The flat gasket face portion of the head is smaller. However, aftermarket Cleveland heads have the bigger 4v face with the 2v port size. Gives them the sales pitch that both 2v and 4v flanges will fit their heads. I suppose if I had a Cleveland already built and running, I wouldn't want to have to buy brand new headers after I spent all that dough buying aluminum heads... So it's a good thing I guess. That brings me to an opinion... Personally I would never do a Clevor with stock heads. I would either be in a position to afford aluminum C heads for the swap, or I wouldn't do it. There are far better things to spend time/money on than old iron heads on a 302. For that time/money, I could get a nice set of W heads that probably flow better and will fit my existing headers, valve covers, etc...
I bought his first 400 he did up an has the dyno on web site, proves they aint no boat anchor! Tim is the best to deal with an passes his knowledge on! Workmanship and prices hard to beat!
. the intakes from a 4 bbl will work on a 2 bbl cleveland. u use the 4 bbl gaskets or turkey pan.ive used them back in the day in the early 70's when there wasnt much for the 2 bbl heads. it is a bad port macth agreed, but they do work.
. as far as building a clevor, it takes a lil more thought to build and 411 has given great advice .but i myself would do it. i like to be different.ive built several and they ran great . as matter of fact i have the pistons, heads , everything but the oil pump and pushrods ready to do one now. the pistons as of now only one manufactor makes them otf and that is kb. speed pro used to. you can get them custom im sure.the 2 v aussie heads for a 302 based wouyld be best to me. and the 2 v's with light port work do flow well. go sbftech.com and look where some have been ported and look at numbers. yes you can buy aluminun heads etc but heck this is hot rodding, make something different, and do it yourself. if ya dont know how do research, get with someone . whatever . but again i like the idea of the clevor ..up to you. p.s. with the new intakes that eldebrock have out now that solved the biggest hurdle to build one.
Pistons depend on the combination. A Boss 302 piston would work in both 302" and 393" combinations. Sealed Power still offers them so you don't have to limit yourself to KB. Although, I am hearing some good things about the new KB forged pistons. A few Pontiac guys I know have them in some big cubic inch stuff and they're doing fine.
I did the same thing back in 1990. I had '68 Fairlane with a 2v Cleavland, a factory 4v intake, with the 4v valley pan gasket.:Handshake
