Just ran across this in another forum....I thought these intakes were long out of production. They work with 351c 2v heads on a 302. Maybe old news...but I can remember seeing Street Boss intakes at swap meets when I was a kid. http://www.tmeyerinc.com/B&Aintake.html
I have thought about putting Cleavland heads on a Windsor before. If I were to buy one of these intakes, what else needs to be done to mke it work?
You must plug the Cleveland water transfer ports in the combustion face of the heads. Then drill Windsor style water tranfer ports in the intake port face of the heads. There may also be some steam holes that need to be drilled in the combustion face of the heads to do it 100% correctly. You have to pick the correct heads and intake as well. I believe most of the "Clevor" intakes available new are geared for 2v heads. There are several manufacturers selling them now. They come in 302 deck height and 351w deck height for the most part. There were some available for 4v heads in the past, but I don't think they can be had new nowadays, but I could be wrong.
They have been long out of production. There was a rumor that someone bought the tooling and was going to start producing them again. I guess it happened. They are not the only game in town anymore though. There are several folks doing Clevor intakes. At least 2 in Australia, TFS, and Edelbrock...
Tubular Automotive makes a Boss 302 swap header for our cars. They are by default large tubes with 4v flanges, but I have talked with Tubular on the subject before and they said different flanges, like 2v in place of 4v, and smaller tubes, are no problem if you order your headers that way. The regular headers have 2" tubes. With 2v Cleveland flanges you will want to go with a smaller tube. Probably 1.75" as a guess. Edit: I guess it should be pointed out that other parts needed would be: Boss 302 pushrods (if using 302, custom length if using 351 block) Cleveland rocker arms Clevor or Boss pistons are likely. I saw one build up online where the builder cut the stock pistons for valve clearance because it was only a very small amount needed. If any sort of performance cam is used, this should be checked closely and carefully. Plenty of pistons are out there for Clevors. Boss 302 head gaskets Cleveland exhaust gaskets in 2v Clevor specific intake gaskets Boss 302 or Clevor head bolts and if you want to get detailed... You can cut the tops of the cylinder walls back a bit to unshroud the valves on the sides. The factory did it to the stock 351c blocks... It's not a 'must do' though. If you are using factory Cleveland heads... Open chambers are huge, and prone to detonation. In the US, closed chambers only came on 4v Clevelands and Boss 302s. Open chambers will be hard to make decent compression on a small cube engine. The best Cleveland heads for our 302s are Austrailian 302 Cleveland heads. They have the 2v ports AND quench combustion chambers that are good for power and small enough to make compression on a 302. The Austrailian 351c heads are just like ours, it's the 302 Cleveland heads you need.
I've has a pair of 2v cleveland heads in my shed for 25 years thinking i might someday do this but it'll never happen
Tim Meyer is a great guy to do business with. I bought my Comp Cam kit and Scorpion roller rockers from him for my Cleveland.
Looks like he's got quite a bit of stuff for them too. Anybody notice the 454" shortblock he's advertising on the piston page???? Price = WOW!!!
The parts that I purchased were also very good prices I liked that Tim answered his own phone when I called
Lucky for me I bought a rolled Boss back in the 80s and parted it out. The engine is very good but the bad thing is I really don't have anything that it should go in. Oddly enough the Maverick would be the best choice. A Boss 302 has no business in a 68 Mustang or a 64 Cyclone imo. I had hoped to find a good 70 fastback to throw it in one day but I don't see that happening...I have too many projects and no more space. Right now I just want to get my car going with a 250 the way it came, I really jury rigged the driveline so I figure getting it back to square one would be a plus. Then once I get everything else worked out I can think about upgrades.
I always called it "The V8 Vega Syndrome" - in other words big engine, little car. Short and simple - that is how my car came to be
