if they are this far in...about 1.25 inches...what does the seam look like at the cowl and doors.

I know of 3 Mavericks without an engine I could measure. Maybe if we collect enough numbers we can figure it out.

You're measuring the wrong thing. There are no tower to tower dimensions in that chart. The 30.81 is the bumper mounting hole spacing. You'd have to measure from the upper arm mounting hole to the steering gear and idler arm mounting holes to match anything on that chart. If the tower braces go on, the towers are where they are supposed to be.

Or at least close they could still possibly sag as the holes at the cowl side are oversized

I measured fender apron to fender apron in the location circled in the photo.
    The '70 measured 42"
    The 72 was 42.1875 or 42-3/16" (V8 car)
    The '76 was 42.0625 or 42-1/16" (6 cyl)
This got me thinking the Belly Bar could had something to do from keeping the towers from drooping as much on the '72...or I'm over thinking this. In a perfect world there shouldn't be but 1/32" tolerance. Then again I used a 25" tape measure

I still say that the hoods are all the same width. If the hood fits properly, then the towers have to be where they need to be. You seem to be over thinking things.

I just measured mine with a 48" aluminum ruler...

41 and 7/8ths from the area circled in the earlier post.

Measured it from the bolt just behind that area and came up with the same measurement.

My car has the motor in ... 351W with aluminum intake (very close to stock 302 weight) and the car was sitting on the wheels. It has the stock belly bar and shock tower braces.

Jeff, all three of your measurements were cars without engines?
Were they were on the ground, too?

Wondering if I have something to add to the "to-do" list ... :scratchchin:

If the shock towers move, they would tend to sag in, right?

Mine measure 42 3/8" Seems they are a bit wider than most

    Jeff-
The 70 and 72 were sitting with the tires on the ground, the 76 was sitting on the lower control arm on a cement block (spindles removed)

    Blu-
Fenders can be adjusted in and out and forward and backward. That being said...you can make the hood fit and look right within reason. The inner fenders can't be adjusted. Since that shock tower brace is held down with 5 sloppy fitting bolts on the shock tower and firewall it can still fit. To prove this loosen the shock mount bolts and remove the firewall bolts then move the brace and try installing the firewall bolts.

I figured out that there is some (not much) adjustment to fit. I was just wondering, since you have so many to measure from, how the hoods looked to fit to you. I am thinking that 42 1/16" with +/- 1/8" sounds like what I need to see when I go measure mine.
So that bring me to more thinking. Are the hoods identical in dimensions? I want to say yes but no proof.

Still makes me wonder how achieved and what the dimension is that the guys are using for the solid or ridged bars is. I am sure one could make it fit, but is it made to be the length that best suits the general concences..? This is being way overthought by me but I feel I am suffering sag so I am being cautious about what I add to my car.
