Hi everyone my name is Chad and im putting a 5.0 out of a 2000 ford explorer in my maverick. Im using a painless wiring harness and im going to use a t5 tranny from an 88 mustang gt. I was wondering what headers everyone was using with their 302/t5 setup and if they fit with or without mods? Any info would be great! Thanks
but chad has already did the t5 swap and has headers on his 70 maverick p.s my name is chad too forgot to add that i have the summit brand headers in my maverick
The instructions from my 6901s say you have to jack up the engine and install from underneath. Mine went in easily that way.
The trans tunnel is smaller in a 70. I had to split open the top of the tunnel and add metal to make room for the T5's shifter tube.
no you dont have to but it is close about a inch of room ounce you cut the brace and add some steel to strengthen it back up but there's enough room my fotos of it http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=65916 http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=58050
the trans tunnel is not an issue since my car had a 460 and a toploader trans in it before i got it so its already cut up. and my shock towers are shaved so i have more room. my only concern is interference with the gearbox and the trans?
HEY you know that thoes heads are GT40-P heads and you have to use special headers with them because of the spark plug angle or every time you runit fo 10 minits you will have to put new plug wires on the motor because it burns them somone on the board sed to use 2 flanges on each side ? and how i know they are the P heads is because there are 4 lines on the END of the head and the regular non P heads have 3 lines do a search about them
I ran P heads on mine for years with an old set of Blackjack long tubes. Accel shorty plugs on the driver's side and 90* plug boots from an electronic distributor cap.
On mine the shifter tube, not the shifter tower, hit the tunnel forward of the brace. I had to split it open.
