I own a 71 grabber with drums all the way around. I want to change to front disc. So i stopped by my local pull-a-part. they have a 75 granada and a 76 maverick both with front disc. but the guy behind the counter tells me it wont work. im thinking if i take the spindle, rotor, back plate, caliper i should be good, no? anyone have some insight on this?
Get the outer tie rod ends, proportioning valve, brake hoses and steel lines and brake hose brackets as well
Take them off of either, which ever he thinks is cheaper. Take the whole spindle off the car with all brake parts attached. I even took the hardlines off the frame to make sure the rubber lines bolted up and were in the right location. Lots of info on here and inthe tech article on how to install but long story short, they will work.
i would get the spindles...MC, rotors, calipers, hoses, outer tie rod ends i would get new. no need buying the old stuff and having to replace it. where ever the deal is... ......
I would get both setups. They sell for quite a bit of money. Sell one set and itll cover the price of both.
If the calipers are cheap enough take them too to turn in, probably gonna be cheaper than having to pay the core charge when you go to the parts store to buy the rebuilt ones. Same with the master cylinder. But rotors can be left since they will charge for those since they have scrap value but will be no use to you since they can be bought new.
The granada, maverick, comet and monarch(pre80) all use the same spindles. And they swap over to about 8 other models.
In that case, stick with drums for now Or, get one set, put them up for sale to make some cash, then get the other set.
