I have a 70 Maverick i-6 200cui, I'm 18 years old and I don't have money for a 302 engine which I plan to get eventually, but for now does anyone know how I can speed it up and make it louder that aren't too expensive?

What transmission and rear end do you have? Is the center section of the rear end smooth or have a cover plate with bolts as view from behind the car? A rear gear change can make a big difference in performance. You can add a turbo muffler and a Y-pipe to the exhaust to have dual exhast tips out the back.

Seems a little extreme, I'd use a 1/4 inch drill bit and add holes one at a time with test runs in between to get it just right;)

Seriously, 2X on the rear gear change.

I had a rusted muffler on my 71 200, plopped a thrush glasspack on the car and it sounds pretty good. got a little rumble but is a little aggravating on the highway. All in all it has gotten me through my first year with the car until I drop the small block in. It sort of added a little performance feel to the sixer. Oh and best of all under 20 bucks and 20 minutes to install don't forget a chrome tip while your there :)

Shave the head, install an aftermarket hydraulic cam, When the head is off for shaving about .040" off have the manifold milled to accept a 2bbl to 2bbl adapter and put a Ford two barrel carb on it, Have the valves ground an hardened seats installed on the exhaust side, put on a larger exhaust and a muffler that has the same inside diameter as your tube.
You won't gain a bunch of power but you will notice the change.
If you have a points distributor in it change to a Pertronics unit if you have the money or put a dwell extender on it (its a do-it-yourself electronic box that makes your points work like a pertronics unit).
I do have the plans and parts list - along with how to do it instructions that I can email you. (there is a thread somewhere that has the info here but I don't remember where it is)

Hey Paul....if you do find that list o' stuff for that 200 build I'd LOVE to get it too.... I have a 200 that just won't die.....I'd love to get ten or 20 HP more...It's a 72 by the way. I have a 250 long block I'm going to do next some day...IF the 200 ever goes down. Maybe that list is applicable to the 250 too? But I really don't know any Guru's down here in Los Angeles. Lot's of machine shops and mechanics.. I love the reliability of my 200 I6 ..I drive it on road trips...LA to Vegas...LA to San Francisco.. I really don't think I'll ever do the Aluminum CI head but milling down the stock log and a little 2 barrel as long as it fits under the hood would be cool. I just spent the last hour searching for that list on this forum...ha ha..can't find it :( It's valuable info I know...
Thanks for all your great posts.

Fordsix.com has endless info. Something cool is that a milled down 2bbl conversion late 250 head will flow just as much as a crossflow OZ head. Im building a turbo kit for the 200 in the falcon that im building. You can find my videos on youtube by searching for acmav289. I have a dual exhaust system on it.

go to fordsix.com like mentioned before, good guys there.

    ---short and sweet version---

    you want loud

    y-pipe into dual glasspacks (12")

    you want fast

-bore 30 over, port the head and 3 angle valve job and mill the head (for 9.1 compression), run port divider, run headers, run offy triple carb setup or 2 barrel, go with the 71' timing chain (250 only), duraspark II ignition, swap to an electric fan. put behind a T5 tranny.

    you want faster

    turbo charge it

building a six aint cheap but they are different and sound good.
