I know one of the more popular swaps is the mustang 2 clip. I know some people buy an aftermarket crossmember and some others use a factory pinto mustang 2 clip. I have a complete pinto clip that I plan on using. I know a member here used a factory clip to install a 460. If anyone has any pics of the installs usuing an aftermarket or factory piece I would greatly appreciate it.

The Pinto steering geometry is not compatible with the Maverick.
The wheelbase is too short at 93 inches and 103 for the Maverick
That means the angles on the spindle steering arms are different and you will end up with bump steer and an increase of steering radius.

With the kits out there, you'd be nuts to try and graft a Pinto, or Mustang II front end on your car these days.
Rod and Custom seems to be one of the most popular, Helix looks like a cheap knock off.

I have some thinking to do but pinto mustang 2 clip is off the table after some measurements. I might be shunned though by the ford community

I think Pinto and Mustang II are different....
It's one of those things, if your going to do it, for the amount of work that's involved, you'd be better off spending the money and doing it right, or don't bother doing it at all.

by what I have read the early pinto clips were different but the later ones around 74 up were basically the same

If you have the parts already get one of the welders series crossmember kits. You can get one that allows you to use stock suspension parts.

I think I will go with the welders series crossmember. The only thing that worries me is what rack and pinion do you use. It seems like the factory one would be to narrow. Any advice is appreciated

I'm using a manual unit from Flaming River and it is actually a little too wide. There are plenty of threads on the rack ends so I'm just going to cut an equal amount from both sides and it will be good.

Sorry about not answering, I got caught up in the VIN thread. Ton of reading there.:D That cross member uses any Mustang 2 compatable rack and the sources are endless. I imagine you could use the one you have with the right rod ends.

I have heard of using the tie rod ends of a fairmont because they are longer. I have also head of usung a 79-93 mustang rack and pinion

what is the track width and proper way to measure it. They have crossmembers for 56 58 and 60 inch track widths

I was wondering how the steering on a pinto would not be compatible. It has the rack on front of the crossmember like a mustang 2.

I think 58" track width would be the way to go. If you went 56" tou might end up with frame rail interference at full lock. I'm with you on the Pinto rack, not sure why it wouldn't work. Might be a bit of a light duty unit but you're not putting it on a Galaxy!
