Well friends ,it is done ,Blue Thunder has a New Paint job at 10 am this morning, pics were taken between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm.She looks pretty good ,but not great (yet) ,we ended up with a bit of dust in the clear coat. ( I quess thats what you get when you convert a old dairy farm milk parlour into a down draft spray booth ). Oh well nothing that a little 1200 wet sanding here and there and a polish wont fix,ill have her show room in a few days,i hope ,lol. The base went on perfect and the clear flowed like water ,no runs, just a little dust. Heres a few pics ,were going to put her back together and pin strip her tomorrow. No wet sanding till it warms up a little. .
Im dead serious ,You supply the material ,ill supply the booth and the painter on me ,Jimmy .One condition ,you show up with your pimped out ride to Mega Ford Weekend next year.
No way!!! I'm taking auto body collision repair at my school so I should have her all prepped and ready for paint hopefully by then! when it gets closer maybe you could recommend what paint i should buy to bring with me!!! and I'll have the passport on hand to get me to canada to have the mav painted, so I might as well get the rest of my moneys worth and go back for another trip for the mega ford weekend!!!! I'm so excited!!!
Well then Matt ,its a done deal,i look forward to seeing you and your car in the spring ,we will figure out what you need for it in the spring when you have the body work done (to 220 grit sandpaper). Here is my email address keep it in your files . hy_flowvox@yahoo.com Jimmy:Handshake
awesome thanks! I'll save it. and thanks for the tip on down to 220! will do. looking forward to finally meeting you! and getting that paint shot on :Handshake
400 is a lot slicker than 220 grit...the smaller the # the bigger the grit. (36/80 grit is like sanding with rocks) ...this primered fender was sanded with...3600 grit...
220 is NOT rough, but its all i asked Matt to do,after that its very easy to let the pros finish up the job with primmers and 320 or 600.The finner the grit just depends on what paint your putting on for the best cover.Matt dont you worry ,you leave it in 220 ,we will take over from there ,cheers friend.Jimmy
Sounds like I better get my butt in gear & get the 70 Grabber 302 engine & 5 lug swap done. Then I can drive it to Jimmy's & have it painted Vermillion, with clearcoat & have the Grabber stripes done. And maybe even be able to get one of those Grabber cowl hoods at the same time...
