What is your definition of 'early'? The tank will fit a 71-up...but not a 70. You will need longer strap bolts and the correct vapor valve to make it work in a 71-77
I have 75. The car is going to be customized soI am not real worried about being original. How much does the tank hit the valence> Is it a spark liability? What if I used a fiberglass valence?
I can vouch for that. I have converted my rear bumper to the small version using a 71 rear valance. And it doesnt even come close to hitting the aftermarket 76 tank that im using.
SoO, a 76/77 tank should mount in my 75 with no problems? I thought it was strange that Ford would change the dimensions of the tank area when they added the larger tanks.
Where did you buy your tank? There is a place called Spectra Premium that lsits them for $ 124.18. They also carry new straps and sending units.
Actually, 1975-1977 was all the same tank, also the same as Granada. Spectra is the only one that makes them.
Your straps will work when you replace the short Carriage bolts with longer bolts that you buy at your local hardware store. The later tanks require the late vapor valve because the hole is different sizes. A new sending unit came with my tank.
