its valve adjustment. you need to shim up the pedistals get shorter push rods. you really need to start over on your valve adjustments on all cylinders. sence you grinded your pedistals you should get a new set and start over. this is a good time upgrade to roller rockers. i know thats more money. a new set of roller rockers should come with the shims and instructions to properly set them up.
I bought a motor to get new e7s off since it was going to cost too much to fix my heads. had the heads cleaned and checked. I took the rocker arms off the new motor i just got that were perfect and untouched. How can it be my valve adjustment when the rocker arms were off?
Ok this is getting confusing... I put the gauge on with rocker arms on and got 50 Then i took the rockers off with the air hose connected and was getting air in the pan. Then i put oil in the cylinder like you said with both rockers attached and got 110-120 psi. This means the rings are not seated, correct? Mabe we need to talk over the phone? lol
im not there watching you set up your valve train. i dont know how your doing. i linked to some roller rocker instructions on how to set them up. thats the same process that you use on stock rockers. you are not using a stock cam so the stock push rods may not be the right length or the pedistal hight may not be right. you are at a level that is not just plug and play or bolt and go. follow those instructions and you should have problems solved.
You cant do a proper compression test with the rocker arms off. Think about it. How can you get air into the cylinder to compress with the intake valve not opening? A proper cylinder leakage test is done with the right tool. Not just an air fitting. A leakage tester has a percentage of leakage range so you know if its excessive or not. i going off you saying you had air coming out the exhast port. then when you took off the rockers it stoped the air from coming out. yes you may also have a ring seal problem because of those pressure numbers. get the valves adjusted and see how it runs.
Or when you put the rocker arms back on you got them adjusted better, was the spark plug on that cylinder oily ? it should have been if the rings are not seated. And yes you would have pressure in the cylinder without the rocker arms on but would be better with the intake rocker arm on so it could draw some air in, with the exhaust rocker arm off you eliminated the possibilty of the push rod holding valve open (valve adjustment) Generally speaking though if pressure increases with addition of oil in cylinder than the rings are bad
I have some play in the arms, they are not compressed when at tdc, these are pedestol rockers not stud rockers. Even if i were to put hims it wouldnt make a difference if the stock set up doesnt touch the valve at tdc. Again, not trying to annoy you or argue, i just want to be on the same page. Darren is correct about the leak down testing equipment but I was just trying to help you with the basic tools you should have around the house. I think we have got you close enough to figuring out your problem or at least narrowed down possibilities. Adjust valves or make them so they can be adjusted properly or rering engine.
i am unclear on if you did the air pressure test with the exhast rocker on and had leak in the exhast then took the rocker off and the leak stoped? did you do that and is that what happended. if your rockers arnt even geting to zero lash when you tighten them down on the pedistal then you need alonger push rod or lash caps on the valves. but that should not cause your capow
