I just bought the magazine today and all I have to say is... WOW! WHAT A NICE CAR!!!!:thumbs2:

I'm seriously going to buy another copy to rip the article out and put it on the wall of the garage by my Comet GT for inspiration!

If you have a build log of it, I would seriously like to read it!!!

    Bitchin Stichin Interior

    Hi Rick:
Thank you for your kind words. I agree. Tom McFadden of "Bitchin Stitchin" is a Master at his craft. He has been doing this for a great many years and has built his share of beautiful cars along with his interior work.
He actually "coated" the rear side plastic panels ,"then" made a checkerboard double stitched cover for them and installed the front Door Panels FIRST .. then he lined up the checkerboard pattern in the rear before placing it on the panels so it would "flow" as he put it into the rear without interruption ..ha. Then he performed the same thing on the REAR of the bucket seats. This guy is a perfectionist and when he is working we all just stand back and let him roll. I am truly blessed to know him and we have been friends for years . He does a lot of work for the owner of NPD here in Florida Jim Schmidt who has a mind boggling collection of cars . I appreciate your noticing the work . I know Tom will be also . Thanks again for your encouragements. :) Chip

    Build Log on Comet

    Hi Scott:
Thank you for your kind comments. Its nice have your work appreciated. I don't have a build log but I have enough pictures to paper my wall with them. There are a lot of items that weren't covered in the article naturally since space is a premium. If you see anything you're interested in I would be glad to put something together or email you or call you to discuss it . I've had interest here in Florida about the control knobs for the AC being installed in the parking brake area , and the heater and defrost levers being removed to accomodate a curved aluminum insert to be installed in its place to allow a set of rocker switches for the sport lights, override switch for the electric fan , and electric door locks to be installed at that location. Bill wired the car to automatically "lock" when the car is started to prevent a car-jacking situation , and it automatically "unlocks" when the car is shut off. The "wiring" on this car was all performed by Bill Roberts and Alex Alvarado and EVERY connection is fitted, soldered, and then heat-shrinked to protect from moisture. Bill hates wires and went to great lengths to "hide" every wire he could. He even drilled a hole in the center of the firewall just above the manifold height to accomodate the eight wires necessary for the injectors so the wires wouldn't be dangling over the top of the engine. I am blessed to have friends like Bill and Alex and benefit from their many talents. I didn't mean to go on so , but if you would like any information further on the build please feel free to email me and I would be happy to discuss , or divulge any info that might help a fellow enthusiast. ( and Comet owner-Ha) :) Chip

    Chip,

You sir have IMO one of the top 3 nicest comets, period. At least by my reckoning and anybodies elses unless they be blind and a dotard.

I also put it on my top 20 list of best Mavericks and Comets ever built.

Your car is a work of art and as I build my car over the next 3 years or so....I want you to know I have posted your article on my garage wall for inspiration along with a handful of others members rides here.

    Thank you :Handshake

    Comet feature

    :)Hi Dennis:
Yes .. Its a new car. A guy approached me three years ago with a 74 Comet which was really clean but with no motor , trans , or interior. I could see the body was pristine so I bought it. I wasn't intending on starting another project so I just started by sealing the cowl and when I got it opened up I noticed that there was just a hint of rust and everything under the cowl was in great condition . I "osphoed" it anyway and then painted it black and "then" sealed the cowl like I do on all the cars. I removed the shock towers , installed a rack and pinion style front end ..disc brakes, yada da yada .. you know the drill. I'm sure you've found yourself in this position also ..ha. From there it just got away from me .. I put it in the paint shop , I had already purchased a 427 Man O War block , and a Lentech AOD so I had all the ingredients. It took over two years to complete this one since I only have Saturdays to work on the really technical parts of the project. I'm glad its finished .. I didn't take it on the Hot Rod POWER TOUR this year since we were so slammed here at work but I hope to in 2011 (GOD willing) . Why don't you consider joining us (we usually take 3 cars or more on the tours) or at least make the tour and we'll see you there along the way. :) Chip

    Hi Cornedbeef:
Wow !! What a wonderful compliment to recieve. Thank You !!!
I really appreciate your kind comments . This car was finished thanks to my very good friends Bill Roberts , and Alex Alvarado , Tommy McFadden, and myself . Without their help I'm sure I would still be struggling with a lot of the things that are now completed on the car. Bill took "ALL" the wiring out , installed new wiring, relays , fuse panels , soldered every connection , heat shrink afterwards and fitted to the area where it was to be installed. Alex installed the Vintage AC unit running all the lines and hoses including the dryer "under" the fenders and connected them beneath the engine so they would be out of sight. We purchased a "crimper" tool and die setup for all the AC lines and Brake lines and Alex crimped them all and hid the brake lines from he master cylinder "behind" the other fender area so the engine heat wouldn't be a factor. Both Bill and Alex worked every Saturday on this car and some week nights in order to insure the car would be "Road Worthy" for the Power Tour that year. Tommy McFadden of Bitchin Stitchin did all the interior work and installed the Electric Windows . This project really got "out of hand" once we started on it .. We kept finding ways to "improve" the build and revised our plans over and over again to accomodate new features . I'm in the process of installing a post of what we had to do to "build" this Comet on my website and if anyone would like any information concerning what we've done to the car I would be glad to assist in any way we can.
Thank you again for noticing all their hard work. :Handshake Cometized
