I bought my 76 Maverick on January 1st of this year and it sat in a garage for about 5 months. Recently I have started workin on it in my free time and today I feel I got alot accomplished.

Started off by removing rear bumper, plastic trim parts (what are they called?) on side of trunk lid, brake light lamps, bench seat, rear seat, side panels in front and rear portion of interior, seatbelts, carpet, and then I ran into my first mystery.

Alright so under the carpet is a type of padding, nothing to crazy, but on my passenger side front padding there was a large puddle of antifreeze just pooled there. My carpet was also wet in the area that would have covered it. It's like it penetrated the carpet but not the padding. I also have a rust through the metal in that area the size of a dvd case.

I talked to my dad about it and he said could be something to do with heater core if I remember correctly.

Anyway, can anyone explain where the antifreeze came from, why it came from there, and how to stop it in the future?

Heater core may be busted or the hoses are not on right.

Dad is right, heater core leaking. Best to replace with new one, I think most auto parts store can get one in for you. If your car has no ac, not to bad of a job. Just one of those things that go bad over the years. May want to double check and make sure cooling system is not building excessive pressure, good time to check water pump for play, new radiator cap, replace hoses and new anti-freeze if not changed recently.

edit, Justin has a good point on checking heater hoses for leaking,,,

    He usually is (dad).

I will get on that but I have a ton of misc. parts off the engine atm so no way to check the cooling system. Water pump is one of the things not on :D

What did you meen if I don't have AC?

My car has factory AC but its currently not working so hopefully a heater core replace won't be too difficult?
