You guys ever come across a bolt on cruise control, my comet had one when i bought it,not sure when it was put on. Not sure if it was some sort of option or whether it was shop bought at a later date. On the instructions it has a copyright date of 1971 same year as the car.
Hawkeye Never sean one like that. Could you post some pic of your car ? andis it right hand drive , Jay
THATS NOT A CRUISE CONTROL! It looks like a idle adjustment. back b4 semi's had cruise control we would bump the idle to keep the truck warm in winter timewhile slepin in the sleeper. sure we used them like cruise. but if you hit the brake they would not disengage.
If there is a wire that goes to the coil negative or to a magnetic pick-up it is a cruise control. If it doesn't then it is likely a PTO engine speed control that holds the engine at a higher speed than idle when using the PTO. Either way it can be used for a cruise control but if it just maintains a throttle opening then you are going to have to give it throttle every time you come to any kind of hill and use your brakes any time there is a downhill grade.
Yeah, that's more like an old time throttle. Like 71nogo said, you pull it out, and it maintains engine speed, not vehicle speed. That one is set up with an electric over ride so when you mash the brakes it cuts off. In the days before electronic diesel engines, almost every truck had a throttle. I also have used the throttle for a poor mans cruise on the interstate, you just had to remember to manually take it off if you had to slow down. Interesting piece of history there.
speed control It's called a "speed control", it says, it ceases to function the instant you push in the engaging knob or depress the brake to slow up or stop. turning off the ignition switch also disengages your "speed control". I'm very lucky that the first two owners before me kept all paper work that came with the car. prices of all the extras like the gt package which cost $178.80,also have a plastic ownercard and owners manual.
