I was talking about my 50 year old car. My 36 year old car gets about the same mpg with 39 less cubic inches, taller tires, higher gear ratio and 1/4th the hp. :slap:

Ah ha, there in lies the key. :thumbs2:
To add to that Holleys are more flexible when it comes to tuning.
Edelbrocks are a bit less finicky and more of a bolt on.
    Holleys make more power though.

The biggest question is have you ever tried one that was properly tuned for your motor?

Nothing bad with edelbrock/carter carbs, they run great (y)

Holley's just make more power, that's why Vic himself runs them in his road cars.

Hmm you are going to have to post the article where he says that, most of the racing like nascar and such requires everyone to use holley carbs to keep them on a level playing field. Thats also why all the Toyota, Chevy, and Dodge have a front distributor OHV V8 in their Nascar car just like the Ford motors do, but you cant buy anything close to them to drive on the street.

Changing nothing but the carb. I got 20 (with a light foot) on the edelbrock 600, but plugs looked like they were running really lean. (also go 1 mpg if I put my foot to the floor at the track or on the highway between red lights!)

Holley runs better, but only 15-16 mpg, and the plugs look better. I bet the numbers I got on the dyno are probably better on the holley than they would have been on the edelbrok.

i guess the point these guys are making is...If you want power, just don't look at you mpgs. If you want mpgs, put on a 2-barrel. and get 80hp.

It was on an episode of Horsepower, but you can Google it.

It's also been mentioned on this board before.
