Can i make this perform better?

    I have a Holley 4160 carburetor.
    But its a 6919 model, which is an emissions carburetor.

    600CFM, Vacuum secondary, Manual choke, single feed side hung floats.

    Everywhere i've read that these are only good for stock engines.

    Is their any way to make it perform better? or would it just be better if i buy a performance carb?

    I already have high flow needles for it and i was thinking about converting the rear to a metering block using this kit.

    The engine is 93 Tbird HO, Rebuilding the stock bottom end. Im going to reuse the forged pistons...

    Cam will be TFS stage 2 roller:
    292/290, .542/.563
    Weiand Stealth intake
    MSD street fire module/wires
    Heads:
    TFS twisted wedge 170cc 2.02/1.60 61cc chambers


    i do plan on taking this car to the track once in a while, but most of the time its going to be a weekend crusier.

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    That carb will be too small for that engine with the specs/parts you listed.

    i have read at barns and nobles in the holley book about drilling in a couple spots to make it run better, might want to swing by and take a look.

    more info please!

    small as in CFM? or venturi/boosters?

    i also have an extra 50cc pump, i dont know if it will fit though.

    i figured with only 302 cubic inches 600 would be enough, max RPM will be 6,000.

    i have a couple of nice guides, but i need to get a book....

    The only thing i did to this carb was drill it for the Power valve check ball.

    The "high flow needles" aren't going to do anything for you. Hope you didn't pay extra for them. You've got a pretty healthy build, that carb is only going to put a damper on the upper rpms, where you'll benefit the most from your parts selection. You'd do well to invest in a bigger carb, like a 670 Street Avenger.

    Are you going to race the car?
    If this is a street car that Holley will be fine, but if you are going to run it to the 6000 rpm that the cam will run to then a carb between 650 and 750 cfm would be better at the higher rpm. You will lose the crisp throttle response unless you give up mileage to run it rich enough to make up for the lack of cu" in your engine.

    id run a 750 vac. secondary holley ,those 600 carbs are hard to work with unless you really know carbs they dont use jets in the rear , you can use special drill bits and work on that some,but if you go to big then you will have to buy a new secondary plate,and start over,you can buy spring kits for the vacume for the rear barrels,and play with the jets in the front , but then theres the transfer tube , and trust me that can be a problem also,also a good carb would be a 650 double pumper or a 750 elebrock carb......just my thoughts

    they came in the some trick kit i bought when i rebuilt the carb, i didn't use them though i just used the regular replacement ones...

    I have been looking at the 670 SA, but i think i'll end up going with a 725 Demon, jegs has them on sale now.


    just gotta save up a couple of more weeks.

    I wanted to every weekend, but Fontana Dragway doesn't do their weekly street race class anymore, so now i'll be happy with maybe 4 times a year. I already have a set of 235/15 drag radials for the track

    i know they don't use rear jets, that's why i listed if the conversion kit would make it run better, i have a spring kit for the secondary already. It came with the diaphragms and springs.

    But i think i will use the 725 demon, the only thing that i don't get is that it says this:

    "Designed for small block V8 engines with cam profiles of less than 220° duration at .050"

    Mine has 224/232...will this carb still work?

    not really, i'll just use it on the Falcon, its getting a stock 302 soon.

    It never hurts to ask. I just thought about the cost to ship it from California to Seattle - I could probably pick a used one up for less :)

    Shipping aint too bad now that USPS have their new flat rate boxes...i paid $15 to have this shipped from Oregon a couple of years back.

    Plus i'm heading up to washington in July :bouncy:

    Just make sure there's no fuel smell, otherwise it'll never get where it's going. I've had two used carbs shipped to me this way(USPS) that never arrived. I figure it was the smell of fuel that tripped a bomb sniffer or something they've got that got it kicked out.
