Hey guys and gals Im looking for some good advice. I have done the Mustang II front end swap ( R and C kit) and ( tried to) drop a 347 motor in over the weekend-- now Im having issues with everything NOT fitting. *My motor has Edlebrock performer heads-- but the JBA midlength headers that I bought wont work ( they run right into the firewall) What headers is everyone using on their swaps? Anyone know anything about the Hooker 6010 ( I think). Ive also heard there is someone making custom headers for this? *Also, I am putting a C4 tranny in, and dont know what cross member to use. *To top it all off.. the valve covers on the motor are now rubbing on the brake booster. Anyone else have this issue? Its getting frustrating as I have so much done, but now everything isnt lining up the way I was hoping. If you have any advice or knowledge in this area, please let me know. I anxiously await your info. Thank you terri
wow i have seen bigblocks in a mav with the mustang ll setup but not with power brakes can you say 351 stroker ?? GOOD LUCK ANY PIC"S
I haven't heard of a 302 based motor rubbing on anything after a MII swap But if your 347 won't fit.. then the 351 stroker the previous poster suggested definately won't fit.
Pictures showing the exact point of problem may help. Have you contacted R & C for their imput? I expect a header nightmare with my Cleveland but the Windsor has been done before and there should be a header part number or a phone number to someone that can help you out.
Terri, are you still using a front sump oil pan with this Mustang II cradle or did you go with a rear sump pan? I'm just wondering if your engine is in the correct place or you're moving it around trying to clear a wrong oil pan. With my C motor, I had to use a rear sump Canton pan designed to fit a Cleveland over a crossmember type car. You can see how it is notched to clear the cross member. No mater what suspension you are using, your engine should still be sitting centered between the frame rails. Unless it is sitting too high or you have really tall valve covers now, it shouldn't, all of a sudden, be hitting the brake booster. Something is different now.
Talk to Frank / 71Gold he went through this already on the headers. I would think the factory trans crossmember should be fine unless your moving the engine further back.
thanks for the suggestion, I had already talked to Frank and unfortunately he wasnt able to help me-- I'll get it figured out. thanks everyone for suggestions-- I appreciate it. Terri
Terri, doesn't Frank have a Mustang II front suspension, a Windsor and headers? Why couldn't he help you with a header selection? Does he have something different than you have?
He said he took a set of shortys he liked, cut the ball flange off and added a 3" collector to them- they dont make the headers he chose any more, so Im going to have to figure something else out. Im pretty sure there are some Hooker shorties I can use--- I went with midlength ones and they didnt work , so shorties are where Im headed now. Terri
Dont know if you are set on using shorties but you might want to check these out, I think if they would work for you they would be a great compliment to your car http://www.fordpowertrain.com/FPAindex/headers1.htm
thanks Mike.. I will defintely check them out see what they have to offer. I was just going to go with shorties because I was afraid the long tube would be too close to the ground-- dont want to be dragging anything-- but Im open to all and any suggestions... so thank you very much. Terri
I don't have the...mustang II suspension... I have a...Maverick rack-N-pinion suspension...from R&C. '93 5.0 roller w/stock oilpan. the shorty headers i chose don't have the...302 bolt pattern...i had to make a spacer plate w/studs to mount them.
Yep.. we have two completely different things going. Mine fit the motor perfect-- then run right into the firewall. I think I have the solution figured out, and will know next week. Nice work on those spacers Frank-- they look great. wish I had those kinds of fabricating skills. Thanks for sharing the pics-- I really love to see the work other people are doing on theirs. so many options and so many talented people. Thanks Terri
...Jeff and i went to Summit and pulled 21 sets of hedders. we found a few different sets that would work...most were...block huggers... and i wanted something that had a longer sweep to them... ...did you get the...pre installed...motor mount stands?
I'll call it "Mustang II type and - or influenced suspension" design then I do remember now that you rifled through Summit's entire catalog of small block Ford tubing but didn't recall hearing how you made out.
