Just found a VERY AWESOME 351Windsor with a c6auto WITHIN my budget and the ability to get to it where I need to get it to... This I am SUPER EXCITED about!!!! The thing I need advice with... HOW MUCH WORK will it be to get it to fit into my 1970 maverick... I KNOW that it has had a v8 in it before, but I'm assuming it had a 302 in it. How much Modding will I need to do to put the 351 in, and can I just drop that and the c6 trans in, or will I need to mod the linkage, etc etc... I understand I may need to shave the shock towers... but will I need New shocks, or will the stock rear end be ok for a while? etc etc... ANY and ALL Advice is much welcomed... but I told the guy I would let him know in the next day or two... so Any and all advice as quickly as possible would be even better =) Thanks in advance for all your time and letting me pick your brains in this matter!!!!
The 351 will fit with the mods you are aware of but...The C-6 wont without MAJOR floorpan/tunnel mods. Find a small bell C-4 and a 157 tooth flex plate for the 351 then drop it in. Good luck!!!
Well if your a beginner. Its gonna be hard for you to do this. The 351 will take alot of work to get it in there it will fit very snug and dont even think about headers or changing the spark plugs. It would be much easier to shave the shock towers. C6 will only fit if you redo the whole trans tunnel. It will be alot of work and not worth it in my opinion. You can buy a 302 and C4 for reasonable and not have to custom fit and everything. Good luck.
That is what I was afraid of... but when I saw the engine and trans together(they work fine and have all the usual fixin's alt/starter/carb) for 400(my budget is about 500 =( ) I got Excited... I still can't find a decent 302/c4trans for less than 500, that is close enough =( I've enlisted the help of MavoWar... but it sounds like ALOT of work/no longer something to do in a weekend, and I love having the help, and part of that is not abusing it. (which I'm guessing trying to do all this/have someone try to teach you to do all this would be severe abuse, LOL. Ahh, but the idea though... =( The idea was SO EXCITING!!!
Yeah, but it also has to be close to the Lex/Covington/E-town KY area... Preferibly close to Covington =) Also... Would that still be a good buy? I mean, it comes with the starter, alt, 2 barrel carb, c6trans, and 351w engine... all for 400 dollars... Sadly I don't have the money to buy it AND a new engine, and 500 dollars is like my MAX I CAN spend on it, lol...
no no no and no, if your going to do all that work, look for a cleveland 4 barrel!!!!! ou can get a nice 302 for that much with trans, you just need to search.
I think the 351 W would be a fun swap with some mods but, like it has been said, the C6 is a no-go The 69.5/70 has the smallest tunnel of all the Mavericks. I had to ball peen mine to death to get my top loader to fit in there.
Yeah, thats what I was afraid of Mav, and why I wanted to check... I know that the 351 would fit with some... umm... "forceful love?" LOL it was the transmission I had NO CLUE about, lol. I was trying to find a cleveland(which if I'm not mistaken is build off a small block) or preferibly a 302 with a c4(or if I have to c5) trans... but saw the pricetag and the fact that he was willing to deliverCovington and got SUPER excitred... What can I say... I'm a Dreamer...
LMAO HOW THE HELL did you find that!!! I've literally searched through like EVERY post... This MAY be the one that's already sold... Sending an e-mail though
I always considered the Cleveland more of a mid sized engine. It's a different block than a Windsor and is overall larger especially in the head department. The advantage is the way the exhaust exits the heads downward instead of more straight out on a Windsor. Neither is easy on the exhaust fitment in a stock Maverick chassis. Of course if you put in a Mustang II front suspension and tear out all of the towers, anything will fit. I'm real close to dropping the 393 into the chassis and making some mounts to secure the front engine plate to the cage and frame
If I'm not mistaken that one needs a complete rebuild/ has ALOT of rust... the first one looks pretty clean though.
looks can be deceiving, just ask my 91 mustang h.o. motor that turned out to be a 83 mustang block with 78 truck heads supposible rebuilt, BTW their rebuild was old style head gaskets with aluminum paint WHICH didnt seal
