was going to grab me a 3.50 tracloc out of a truck but nope... they are not 28 spline... did any torinos come with trac loc? found a torino wagon and dont know if its worth checking the rear anyone know of the variation of gear ratios? most were highway gears, right?
Not all trucks were 31 spline, I have pulled 3.50's out of a few that had 28 spline axles but none were tracloc's. My bet on the Torino you'll be hard pressed to find better than 3.00's. I had a 70 GT with a 351 4 speed and a 70 Type N/W with a 4V Cleveland and both had 3.00's. Ford just didn't seem to get into the performance ratios like GM did.
Before I sent it to the scrap heap, my Q Code 1972 Gran Torino Sport gave up it's 351 Cleveland CJ, 4 speed toploader and "N" case 9 inch center section. It came stock with 3.50 gears & 28 spline axles but no traction loc. I added a traction loc that I found in a 6 cylinder Ford van with 4.11 gears. My friend wanted the gears and I got everything else. Everything is in the Maverick now.
You may get lucky to find a trac lock in the 1957-72 trucks and usually they have a decent gear in them.My 3.89 's and trac lock came out of a 66 f100 and almost all of the early trucks were 28 spline.
you may want to pick up that 31 spline tracloc with 3.50s. you can sell it or use it. 31 spline axles can be had for around 300 new. or you can get a 28 spline lsd to put into that case. you may find another 28 spline tracloc thirdmember with a gear ratio you dont want. you can swap the carriers out with each other.
