I am the first to admit that I am new to the Ford engines. Most everything I have owned in the past had small block Chevy's. So here is my problem: I have an 89 5.0 that we are putting together for the Mav. project. I picked up a brand new set of Ford Racing finned valve covers, as well as finding a great buy on a 94-95 Cobra intake. I started thinking about things recently and realized I may have an issue at hand. So today I went out to the garage and unwrapped the engine. I set the intake in place and bolted on one of the valve covers. My suspicions were correct, there isn't any room to install the throttle body as the fill tube for the valve covers is in tha way. So help me here, what are my options? Can I get different valve covers that only have a cap for the oil inlet? I am lost, and not very happy I wasted money here on parts that will not work together! Glenn
From looking at 94-95 stock covers here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item1c106a98f2 You can see the filler is moved farther to the front. Perhaps there are finned covers with a filler moved forward? Does your current filler unscrew? Maybe it can be moved? More work than just getting another set of covers unfortunately. Thats a bummer.
If the filler neck is removable, you can get away with just a cap on the cover. Will be a pain in the tukus to fill but a funnel and hose would fix that.
I looked at pictures on the net, and on most Mustangs, the intake is straight not curved like that, maybe I'm not looking at the right thing?
He is using the 94-95 upper intake. 87-93 Fox's used the straight upper intake plenum. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/photopost/data/500/medium/15386Black_Cobra_207.JPG
Yes, or, since he is using the spacer, I think he can also use 87-93 valve covers. The filler on 87-93 covers is also moved forward. Either way, the awesomely cool finned covers he has won't fit without some extra work.
yeah guys I think I am going to have to replace the valve covers. I guess it could be worse. I just hate having to buy things twice. I know I can sell these valve covers, it just makes it more difficult, and costly as I will probably not make enough off of these to cover the added shipping on both sides of the deal. Oh well...
How about taking something like a metal radiator cap, and welding or soldering a metal flexible funnel to it?
you can make an ofset on the tube itself personaly i would make a custom intake with the throttlebody up in front.
Damn that thing's taller than a tunnel ram. I don't think it'll clear the hood either. :16suspect My 3x2 setup's not that tall and it pokes up thru the hood in the front.
