The springs aren't strong enough to hold open the trunk lid with the rear spoiler on it. So it stays up for a while, then decides to slam shut while my head is under it. Might be 30 seconds, might be 45 minutes. It all depends on WHEN MY HEAD IS UNDER IT!!!
Thanks for the link, that is EXACTLY what I need, and the Acura part will help me find it quickly. I will likely do 2 of them.
Gas springs are stronger than they look. Using 2 springs might be too much. Instead of the lid falling on your head...it might knock your teeth out when the catch decides to let go when you're walking by. If you do try 2 springs better remove the factory spring also or you might bend the trunk lid trying to close it
On the 66 Falcon we used two Gas Struts and removed the factory spring(or actually i think it had those rods i cant remember) , Works great with no problems what so ever.
Yeah, I was going to remove the stock springs. I might as well tidy up while I am under there and remove what I don't need. So, would two hold up the hood? Probably not THAT strong, I would guess.
Maybe that's what my wife is referring to when she says that I am "dense"? Actually these gas struts have been on my "to try" list for a long time. I bought 2 rear hatch struts that fit my 2001 Explorer. That way if it doesn't work out, I have spares for my Ploder.
