i just got this mav thats been sitting for at least 6 months that i know of, and the automatic transmision will only go in reverse. it wont grab first at all. im sure the fluid is bad but its been poorly taken care of so the guy said it should probably be overhauled. should i spend my time flushing it or just get a replacement?

I would recommend rebuilding or get a performance C4 from me. I can set you up with a C4 that will give you performance and street manners for as little as $775. For an aggressive street / strip C4 you pay only $800 - $850. I have references here if you need them.

Patrick, I'm getting a tranny from Paul this month. He's done quite a few for the maverick/comet people on this forum and all i've heard is great things! :thumbs2:

    Matt,
Your transmission is about 1/3 done...
What RPM does your engine get peak power?
    what cam do you have?
I can set the shift point in drive to 4800 - 5800 RPM so if you want perfect shifting on the track while in Drive let me know. You will be getting the manual control of 1st and 2nd but it will shift auto in Drive. (the shift RPM will depend on how far you foot is stuffed into the carb) it will shift at lower speeds when driving easy and burn the tires off in full throttle runs... I think you will like it... a lot!

Oh Man i can't wait!!!! I'm not sure what RPM's my motor gets peak power at. One of the many things i've been talking about for a looong time now is getting a tach. The Cam is stock and the only mods are 4bbl, headers and intake manifold. I will be getting my 3.80's put in hopefully by june. Should be pretty fun at the 1/8th mile. :bouncy:

wow guys this all sounds great but at the current time (having no money to my name) im just relying on friends to get this puppy running so i can get an actual job and have some dough to get some quality parts in it.

    Patrick,
Give me a call - 206.725.0881 - we will talk.

    Matt,
With a stock cam your engine gets max power at or near 4800. I will give you a bit more than that with the new transmission. That way you can spend your time steering and leave the C4 in Drive when you are on the 1/8th mile. You like the drone of the 302 on the highway? with 3.80 gears it is going to drive you to turn the radio WAY up. It shouldn't hurt your engine but it will be turning close to 3800 rpm...

    Ok Matt,
It should be ready to pick up on Friday... unless something horrible happens between now and then.
All mods to case, lube, cooling, clutch drums, pump and stator are done. You have 6 clutches in the forward drum and 5 clutches in the direct drum, a new welded intermediate band, all new bushings and thrust washers with positive pressure lube to the #9 thrust. The parts that are left are your valve body - that will be phase 3 with manual control of 1st and 2nd and shifts that are barely perceptible with light throttle and neck snapping and wheel spinning hard when you stick your foot in the throttle and hold it there. - and the governor which will shift around 5400 rpm when you hold your foot to the floor. The shift will be harsher as you apply more throttle and less noticeable when you use less throttle. The speed of the shift doesn't change - just the amount of inertia behind it.
I will give you a call (or your dad) when I complete it.

so i have this pitch for you guys. just an idea, so if you dont like anything about it just say so.

so matt you said you will be taking your tranny thats sitting around to paul when you pick up your new one, and if i understand right, you said i could have it. since its going to paul anyway, i will pay to fix the slipping problem you said it has.

and Paul, i wount need the one i have now, so i can sell it to you, and split whatever you want to give for it, (idk what its worth) and split it with matt since hes giving me his, and he will get some benefit from this, and i will use whatever of the half i get, to pay to fix the one matt has and put that into my car.

hows that sound? i think its pretty reasonable

    Animal man,
I don't buy transmissions. I use the cores I get to build the next transmission. If someone does not have a core then they get charged a core fee when they pick up their new transmission. Core value is $50 - $100 depending on the case.
I can fix the one Matt brings down for you and you can supply the core, (your transmission) or I can fix yours. The cost is the same (as we discussed on the phone- "top secret conversation")
If you decide you don't want to take me up on my offer then that is OK too. I am willing to give you the deal we talked about with no strings attached. Either way you get a good working C4 at the price we agreed.:yup:

wow you guys are great. i'll have to make it up to ya eventually. i found out today though that the title still isnt in my name, because the guy that has it is out of town or something.. frustrating. so i wont be pulling stuff out untill we get that. i dont want to risk doing all this work when they could just take the car back if they really wanted to....

but once i do get the title, ill take my tranny and paul can take the core and do whatever else you want to do with it, and fix matts with that magic price, and ill make it up to you guys in due time
