rebuilding my front end and this is the last thing i need to buy once my last order of parts comes in. looking at 620lbs fro 67-73 mustangs but what are you guys running???
stock v8 springs with 1.5 coils cut. i will be switching to fox mustang eibach drag springs in the front with some coils cut. wont know how many to cut till they are installed. you can get front springs from a fox mustang for cheap and they will fit.
A stock 6 cylinder with A/C and PS has a stiffer coil spring in a V8 without A/C and PS. The 6 cyl sits on top of the axle whereas a V8 is sitting more to the rear taking the weight with it. A 250 weighs 420 lbs and the V8 is 460 lbs. A/C weighs 61 lbs on a 6 cyl and the front axle sees 64 lbs. A V8 A/C weighs 67 lbs and the axle sees 73 lbs. So saying you have 6 cyl coil springs is saying they could/maybe/possible be stiffer or softer than V8 springs. Ford made 16 different spring rates to use on the Mavericks with different option packages. Personally I wouldn't run anything over 350 spring rate if that much on a street car. Anything over that is asking for metal fatigue in the shock tower area or have your teeth shook loose crossing an uneven intersection
all stock v8 and it looks lifted since i added all the aluminum parts.... gonna cut a half coil off probably next month and see how it sits.
I guess I am the odd guy out. Mine are from JC Whitney, and described as "heavy duty". WAY too tall. They held the car up about 6" taller than before. But they are really stiff, which I like. I cut 1-1/2 coils off and it dropped to where you see now. I am now able to remove the spring without a compressor, which I really like. Just take the weight off of it, and twist it out.
b4 i cut the coil off, mine set higher in the front than the rear (i guess because i removed all of the A/C stuff and the 40 yrs of wear on the rear leaf springs)
