My son has a chance to purchase a 302 fuel injected engine from a 1996 Ford F150. Can that engine be put into a 1974 Mav? What would be the biggest challenges. Supposedly $350 includes the engine and 5 speed manual transmission.
yes! If your going carb the swap is easy. Just change the intake, add carb and a distributor and your set.
The 5 speed would be way too big for the tunnel but I think it could be done if you really wanted to. There was a 64 Tempest running around town with a truck 4 speed in it, looked like a car from a Rat Fink print.
you know what, i dont know if the trucks are front sump or rear sump like the cars. But like frank mentioned you do need a front sump oil pan. Unless your running a fancy suspension like patches
So you can't just drop it in and drive off? We've never done this. Should we keep the 3 sp manual already in the car?
What engine is currently in the car? If you don't want that truck transmission, please let me know, I'm looking for one to put behind a 351w in my '71 F250.
If it is a 6, you need to change the frame mounts. motor mounts, frame crossmember, might want a double hump tranny crossmember. Probably need a new radiator also.
yes the motor will fit have to change the oil pan and timing cover to older pieces ,intake too tall for the stock hood but can be worked around, the manual trans wont work a AOD from a F150 will. my car has a truck ECM,harness, and intake setup from a 90 model van
Don't forget the exhaust manifolds or headers specific fo the Maverick. I'm sure there's a few things I've missed also.
