A while ago, I bought a 2 piece carpet from Trim Parts, in Lebanon OH. Well, long story short, it doesn't fit. I expected this but was assured it would fit by the tech guy. I called Trim Parts (sales mgr Alex) and he said it someone that is close by would let them make a mold of the 69.5/70 floor pan, they would give them, and me, a new carpet (mine is just for a replacement). Seems like a good deal. Alex's phone# is: 513-934-0815, and he needs one of use to give him a hand, so we will have the proper carpets for our early Mavericks. Also, if you could mention my name, it would jog his memory. Thanks,
Dave; yeah, same old song. He said they only had a later model floor pan for a mold, and didn't know the trans tunnel was smaller on the early car. He said if someone would let him make a mold of the early car, he would give them a carpet, and replace mine. Sounds like a good deal. BTW, Happy New Year!
I wonder how far he would want to travel to make this mold? I'm in Northeast Pennsylvania and my floor is bare right now plus the car is on jack stands.
Call the number I put up there, and ask to speak to Alex, the sales mgr. He knows about this, and wants to get it right. Give him a call!
Thanks Earl, I will call him tomorrow from work. The only things that have been modified to my stock floor is a large side hole in the drivers side of the tunnel for clearence for my Hurst V-Gate shifter and the 2 slots in the f loor for my sub frame connectors. I wouldn't think that would he a problem as any mold can just span those holes. The dimension from door sill, over the tunnel to other door sill would still "add" up so to speak. I'll post tomorrow after I make the call.
Thanks, and don't forget to mention my name. I sent him an email so he will be expecting a call from a Mav owner. Thanks again,
So that's why my carpet from Autocrafters needed 1 1/2" of padding under it for it to fit my '70 tunnel!!!
Yes, that is the reason. Hopefully we can get this resolved and we'll have the right fit for out early cars.
Funny you should mention you got your carpet from Trim Parts. We are just wrapping up a restoration on a '72 Barracuda and the owner got his carpet from Trim Parts. It doesn't fit and was cut way too short on the sides. The 'Cuda's owner is very unhappy about it. He's shipping the carpet back and ordering another one from Auto Custom Carpets. ( which BTW is were AutoKrafters gets thier carpet sets.) I never had a problem with thier carpets fitting properly, but then again all my Mavericks were later models. I'll need to remember the differences in the tranny tunnel hump for future referance.
Jean; the trans tunnel is about 5" narrower at the top than the later models, and a bit taller. This makes it a real problem to fit a later carpet. I had to cut up a brand new carpet just to get it on the floor, and had to make relief cuts to let the seats sit down on the floor. I hope we can get a good carpet made for the earlier cars, and get this problem resolved. Hope you and Dale had a happy New Year!
I called this morning and spoke with Alex. The only way there will be a mold made on a 1970's floor boards will be if someone takes their 1969.5/1970 to Alex's shop in Lebanon, Ohio. He wasn't interested in traveling into PA from what I gathered. He said that if he had no offers from anyone to bring their car to his shop, he would consider sending a truck to pick up my car. I don't think so Hopefully someone will step up to the offer.
Taked to Alex also, when weather breaks if no one steps up, I will get Auntie`s 69.5 out for a fitting. If Im reading map correct, they are north of Cinni Ohio. Wished they made the rubber floor mat,,,,
