I hear ya there. The time will fly by. Lucky for me all I am really trying to accomplish for now is getting the underside of the car cleaned off and painted. Once that is done I will put it back on my scissor lift. I have to paint the new rear end as well as install new bushings and shackles for the rear. I will be working on the engine compartment following that. I need to clean, sand and paint everything before reinstalling the 5.0 and the AOD. My goal is to get the car to move under it's own power by summer. Then I will tackle the body and paint work etc....
You are probably correct. I just thought it didn't hurt to make something to keep everything sqared up in the front. Glenn
A small pressure washer will get it off. You can buy them for around $100 and have it to clean driveways and garage floors. Does great on concrete.
Then buy the cylinders, wheels and other stuff and you have $1440 invested. http://www.roto2000.com/auto_rotisserie_pricing.htm
I know... I know....... I told my wife this would be a slow project I think I am doing pretty good considering I have only had the car since the end of September.
Thats a tad more than I paid for mine back in 2002. Like I've said before, You can always rent it out when your not using it. I've made back $400 in rentals so far.
I wonder how much it would cost to build one from scratch...... I know my welding skills are up to the task.
More progress!! I had to reposition the car on the rotissorie. I didn't have it centered properly so it wouldn't rotate correctly. That's all set now. Today I got to cleaning the underside of the car. The entire trans. tunnel was a mess. I bought some Simple Green HD and a scrub brush yesterday. I think it looks pretty good. The rust you see in the pictures is just on the surface and will all clean up. There isn't any repair work needed on the floors, rockers etc.. In fact the only rot in the car is the bottoms of both quarters, inner and outer. Not bad really!
Looks good. Just curious, I can't see clearly from your photo where the rotisserie mounting is at the back of the car - it looks like maybe a cross bar under the tail panel and 'arms' through the shackles. Do you have any photos that show the set-up at the back? I'm going to get mine mounted up in a few weeks and wanted to know how others have done the back end - I've seen it through the tail panel and into the bumper mounts and other variations but just using the bumper mount area seems a little flimsy compared to using either the spring mounts (mine are already out) or a combination.... thanks
I don't have a really good picture of it for you. I can take one if you would like. I used the bumper mount holes. I took some angle iron and bolted it through the holes. Then where the arms come off the rotissorie I welded a piece of the angle iron up from the arm to the other piece of angle iron. Have I confused you yet? I will take pictures tomorrow for you. This is the only pic I have for right now. One thing I did find by trial and error is getting the car set up correctly to be able to rotate. I have never put a car on a rotossorie before. The guy that let me borrow it only gave me some basic instructions. I have found that the rotating shaft needs to be lined up with the gas filler hole in the tail panel, and at the front the shaft needs to be in the center (mostly) of the rad. support. Other wise all the wieght is at the bottom of the car.
the bottom of your car looks good...... i steamed cleaned mine on an outside lift. it had factory undercoating on it that wouldn't come off. i had to scrape it off by hand... keep us posted... Frank
I used a nice red Mac gasket scraper to get my undercoating off. It was all dried out and came off fairly easy - not a speck of it left. How bout your's Frank. Come off easy or a real bear?
