I got hold of a nice deluxe gas cap but no cable set up. Anyone have any pics of what they've done to make something to secure one?

Got that on mine, works great! Takes a bit of "finessing" to set up and you'll need to drill one hole through the filler pipe but the rod will fit into the cap's hole where the original cable went.

    Homemade locking gas cap mechanism

All I needed was a little inspiration to come up with a mechanism to lock my gas cap in place and a little push to get me started in the right direction. Thanks for showing what Mustangs Unlimited offered. It got me off in the right direction.

1/4" piece of threaded rod; a spring; some nuts and washers to serve as shims and some trial and error and it works perfectly. You'll notice how I've put a "stop" using nuts between the two arms of the bracket that attaches to the inside of the trunk. This prevents you from pulling the pin completely out of the hole drilled in the filler neck.

I used the hole in the gas cap where the cable usually attaches on deluxe caps as the "target" for where to drill the hole in the filler ne ck. You don't have to be exact, but make sure you don't drill down too deep or you'll get into the collar that holds the plastic maverick emblem in place.

Check out CJPonyParts too. Sometimes a bit cheaper. Got mine on sale for about $8 the other day. Also only had to drill a hole in the support for the trunk lock. Just remove one of the screws from the ring that the gas cap screws into and pass the lock shaft through and attach the mount then on the drivers side of the base to the trunk lock. Doing it this way you will not drill through the tubing or the back panel as I have seen others do. Lock works great!
