so 20 pages into stangnet's 30pg thread on seafoam I got to wondering what you guys use it for. Not much on here about it. I've been using it for a while as a gas treatment, just poured some down the old carb. anybody ever tried or recommend the seafoam tranny treatment? Thoughts, tips, tricks, hints, riddles, witty and well articulated rambles?
seafoam strikes me as a snake oil product. it just has too many possible uses to be really good at any of them. it all depends on what exactly your trying to do with the product. why do you want to do a treatment to your trans?
wait, I thought octane boosters were snake oil?! I'm confused . . . I think there should be an FDA label for all snake oil products!
I don't. Don't need to now. But the day might come when I do. It was just curiosity if anyone had tried it.
my experience with transmissions is to replace the fluid every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. thats the best thing you can do is to keep fresh fluid in the trans. when it goes bad its done. there is no snake oil that will fix or extend the life of a trans.
word. I've heard most stuff will just make the fluid thicker to stop a leak or swell the seals, which I've heard negatives to both of these. I didn't think the seafoam stuff was necessarily a leak stopper but a cleaner. I figured if so many people put so much confidence in running regular seafoam through their car then there might be some sort of merit to running the seafoam tranny stuff once in a while. I put fresh tranny fluid in when I changed my pan gasket and filter... should I do a full flush before 20k or is what I did fine IYO? Thanks for the comments!
i feel that doing a regular drain and fill under every 20k miles you shouldnt need to flush it. i am not a transmissin specialist so i could be gravely mistaken but i feel that the frequent drain and fills should keep the fuild in good condition.
If it's half as good as that show they sponsor on Speed...Kit: an auto body experience....I'd never buy it.
I've used it in the gas tank of one of my motorcycles. Helped to clean the carbs and run smoother after sitting for a while. I've got 2 cans of it in the garage right now. Talking about it is making me thirsty. A lot of guys on the Goldwing forum swear by it.
Did I read right?????? 15,000 to 20,000 Miles.... Really, I Have a 1994 F-150 extended cab that has 180,000 miles on her and I am just starting to think about changing it. Phil
