I was looking through some of the marti reports people here placed for the registry and ran across a few reports showing they were Comet Gt's but the vin numbers are showing T or L codes. I thought all GT's had the 302 motor in them.

Nope! Just like the Grabber, the 302 motor was an option. Most Grabbers & GT's had 6 cylinders in them....

I knew grabbers were that way but for some reason thought all gt's had 302's.

Were all years an option or was the 302 standard in gt's at some point?

to the best of my knowledge, the gt package was always just an appearance option and had nothing to do with the engine.

Mercury used to push the V8 more in their advertising when these were new. A higher percentage of Comets got V8s than Mavs, but as stated, 6s still made up a majority of production in both.
