When considering a 100% factory restoration as in a points car. Do they factor in anything done to the motor internaly that cant be seen? I have kept for the most part everything orginal with a few minor details. I do want to update some things like pistons, camshaft, double roller chain, but as far as looks keeps everything numbers matching with a 2 bbl carb. What are your thoughts? So far every nut, bolt, clamp, and all numbers are matching to a 71. Would changing some internals of the motor hurt the car as a factory restoration?
Do you really know, or are you guessing? Since there is no "Real" concours class in Maverick restoration, most events judge a car by the number of modifications from stock, EG: dual exhaust, headers, wheels..etc...(over 3 modifications, your bumped into another class) If you were to add forged pistons compared to stock, or a roller cam, no one can see that or really tell. But if you kept the cam with-in reason (as to not attract attention)...then you'd be almost stock. Your car isn't "Stock" anymore, you've changed the interior materials, and the color, so do what makes you happy. 100% stock restored mavericks/comets are few and far between, I've never really seen a 100% stock Maverick in over 25 years.
This brings up a good question. Is there a sanctioning body that has judging standards for Maverick and Comets?
Not yet......the MCCI has judging guidelines, as cars are classed by modifications from stock, and it's done with a points system. I would love nothing more than a 100% stock restored class.
not to my knowledge. There is not that much interest in Mavericks/Comets from a concours standpoint. There have only been a few cars that I have ever seen that are really concours or near concours.
Who is "they"? As far as the MCCI, they do have a 100% stock class. All classes are judged/classified on what can be SEEN. It has to be a visual modification to bump you to a modified class. If you have changed the color of the car, it would no longer be considered STOCK.
1 color change(but color correct for the year) 2 Seat material (same design just not original material) 3 Wheels can be changed Is this enough to keep me in the stock class?
