I picked up a 1976 Comet today for FREE! I have 1970 Maverick that I recently bought and was needing a passenger side fender, so my cousin had been asking around about Mavericks, hoping to find one with a good fender. He struck up a conversation with a guy in Advance Auto Parts who happened to have a Comet. He told the guy I needed a right side fender and the fella said we could have the whole car if we "come get it out of his way".He said it was a 76 model, thats when I got excited, I knew if nobody had robbed them, it had the disc brakes setup. We went to pick it up today, not knowing what to expect. The guy had told my cousin the car had been "shot up" with a pistol, but he thought the passenger fender was ok. What I wanted was the 5 lug disc brake setup. Well we arrived on the scene and the first thing I notice, is the car has sport mirrors in perfect condition, I'm trying to hide my enthusiasum, then I see the fender I need is the one that is'nt damaged. The car has a 351 Windsor and C4 tranny just sitting in there not bolted in. Holley aluminum intake and I'm guessing about a 600 cfm Holley w/vacuum secondaries. The car even has a set of aluminum wheels like the ones on the General Lee, not my style but, good grief I can't believe my good fortune:bouncy: Now I've got the disc brake setup, the fender I needed, and the mirrors were the icing on the cake! Thought I'd share my experience with you. I hope it goes without saying, I feel very blessed.

Come on, Blugene, the Mav is gonna RULE!! :yup:

Joe, the door panels were covered with some hideous green material, but they were damaged. However, I did get the deluxe door handles off, they're kinda like a Mustang II. The Comet hood appears to be in real good shape. Brian

    Congrats! Free is GOOD!

Sounds like you're well on your way to building a sweet car. You gonna drop the 351 in the mav?

What part of the lower dash panel? This car had factory air conditioning. Let me know what he needs and I'll check to see if I can help.

Well, I would'nt chop a good car to save one in less condition, and if I did'nt save the good parts, they would all be lost to the crusher. I love Comets too:thumbs2:
