mojo, around hazelcrest, cicero and def. in chicago heights were i live theyre still runn'n the wide tires.12 inch was def. and exageration. i imagine theyre probably 13s or 14s.to each their own.when i was young i had my 1st mav so wedged out i used to get pulled over all the time by the cops.theyd walk up to the back of the car and do the knee test.
the cops would pull me over and politely walk me to the back of the car and if my bumper height came to his knee he took out the pen and started righting.i'd let the air out of the air shocks for a while then being a hard headed kid pump them back up till i got caught again.got 3 tickets that way through a span of about a year.i then stopped being a stupid kid and realized it wasnt worth the price and pain in the a$$ of the tickets.
Ok Bob, Ur mostly refering to the Low Ride Guys. Ur right; each to their own. Maybe we might cross paths some day. I usually go to the Glenwood Oak Resturant on Tuesday during the summer months. It's in Glenwood IL. In the year I have been going there I have only seen one Mav/Comet; me being the only Comet. I run 14" wheels--but only 2.25's.
mojo you might have seen me.i'm compeled to ask what is it about glenwood oaks resturaunt that brings you all the way down here?maybe instead of going in gleenwood oaks the day ya come down here we could buy some brats or saziche and go nextdoor to the forrest preserve and have a cookout.toss the frissbee around.i know your aware chicago heights is minutes from where your talking about.
back in highschool the kids liked adding 12" wire rims to their cars for a low rider effect. The really cool kids had them stick out as far as possible giving a squat look I always thought.
I don't recall seeing 12" diameter rims on a car. I seen some low-riders w/ small tires but I thought the rims were at least 13". The tires were real small "skinny" . Maybe I was looking at them and just did'nt realize it. By the way; I put my White Face gages in today. Actually it was a two day affair. I had to clean up the circuit bd where the bulbs go. The copper seats were glazed over "no contact". I only had 2 bulbs bad. I only had a very little light in the speedo and just right turn sig. Now the thing is workin like new. I discussed painting the inside of the bulb housing w/ you. I did not paint it. It's not as bright as I wud have hoped. When I take it out again I will most likely paint it. I found that takin out the speedo gears frm the C4 makes the cluster removal " NO BRAINER". Much easier---only way to go.
Well Bob. It's not far from me. abt 20min down IL. 1 "Halsted" to 178th. and about a 1 1/2 mi. east; a nice easy ride. I like to hangout w/ the "GEARHEADS" ocassasionally. I might have seen you- can't say. What color is ur car. I don't see that u have any images posted on the forum. I seen one Mav since I been going there; it was blue, real nice w/ inline engine. I see ur avatar say's ur car is 302, unless u have more than one car. I guess the brats might be something to consider. I don't really like cooking much when I can get a nice sandwich for reasonable price-- and don't have to ingest/inhale all the smoke.
Dif Animal Nice Mav. U had it a long time. What U plan on doing nx year? Most of my efforts will be in the realm of mechanical. I need the C4 trans gone thru; I have a whine in the drive train. It has to be in the trans or converter; I just had the whole rear end rebuilt. The guys @ Chicago Driveline said all the stuff they removed looked original "38yrs old". I bought car 5 1/2 mos ago and new it had some driveline issues-- the price was right and hardly and rust. The only cosmetic thing I plan on nx yr is seat covers and dash cap.
I'm Mexican, and I can attest to the fact that a lot of the Hispanics/Latinos/Latin Americans/whatever we are calling ourselves this week around my area do the whole super offset wide tire thing. It seems to be really popular on 80s mini trucks. A lot of 'em look like this and a lot of the guys put a ton of the Pep Boys chrome window and wheel well trim everywhere. I usually see 'em with a sticker of the name of either a city in Mexico or south of the U.S. border country/city on the back window. My mom and dad told me it's usually the 2nd generation(the kids of the people that emigrated here, their generation) that do the whole Mexican/Argentinian/Guatemalan/etc. pride thing. I think it's ridiculous and make sure to point and laugh heartily whenever I see it.
