Well thats it for the Mav till Spring. Drove her out to put it in storage and boy did I drive it. Going to really miss going for a blast around town in the evenings. I guess I'll just take the Winter to collect parts I need and make a new plan of attack for the Spring. Looking forward to the end of Winter and it hasnt even started up here yet. I figured I've pushed my luck long enough being third week of November. I wanted to make sure I got it to storage before the salt hit the roads. That could be anytime now so I think I did quite well not putting it away till now. Plan on getting it out in April when the salt is gone off the roads. Only 4-5 months to go. At least I know its safe and dry so I can forget about it for a bit and do some fishing that I neglected this year. Only so much free time. My poor boat has only been in the water one weekend all year. Hoping to get a few weekends in this month and next in the boat. Maybe some big trout fishing in the lower Niagara. Then comes Ice Fishing. Oh yeah. The season will be a bit different though since we just lost one of our friends who's a very active fisherman around here and especially come ice season. He had a massive heart attack 2 days ago. Pretty scary I think he was a few years younger than me. Late thirties is way too young. Its a hard hit for everyone to deal with.
Glad you got the car put away intime. That will help preserve it for awhile longer. As for your friend, sorry to hear that. Catch a big one for him
I'm also putting my car to sleep before the salt hits the road but there's always next spring and summer and I'm Sorry to hear about your friend he was way too young
It sure will. These cars didnt survive long up here in the salt belt. They had perforation repairs under warranty after a few years on the road. Talking to an original owner whos car had body and paint at 3 years old with rust holes in the doors and fenders. Thats why you dont see any around here.
I think the worst part would be storing your car somewhere else. I have comfort in the fact that mine are just outside the back door. I could never do it. Years ago I kept my 74 at my Aunt's house about an hour away, for almost a year..I didn't know what was worse, the new born cranky baby, or not knowing how my car was.
Great thanx Dave. I was OK with it till now. Nah its not a really a big deal for me. The barn its in is top notch new steel barn and its locked up first week of Dec. till Spring. Hes a really good guy to deal with and very responsible with all the toys he has stored in it. Its likely safer in there than here with me moving the snow blower in and out. I hit it in the rear quarter last season and got lucky it just put a tiny mark in the paint. I just about had a stroke when the blower hit it. Besides if something does happen I can get a pretty nice replacement with the price of the cars on here lately.
it does suck but when you go to get it in the spring,it's like getting a new toy all overi store the comet away from home,so maybe i will get some work on the mav....
I put my Maverick into it's winter hibernation two weekends ago. It was one of the few weekends when it was still fairly warm and sunny, so the hubby and I took the car out for a good run before its winter rest. While driving through the little town of Jim Thorpe, a guy leaned out his window and yelled, " That Maverick looks better than the new one I bought in 1972." That made my husband and I both laugh. I hate the thought of not being able to drive the car again until next April or May, but it beats the snot out of having it rusted out from the tons and tons of road salt the state dumps on the roads every winter. By at least May the rains will have washed the worst of the salt off the roads and it will be safe for the car to prowl the roads again. I don't mind winter too much, but when it comes to not being able to drive my Maverick for months on end, winter truely sucks.
Jean, the way this state operates, maybe this winter we'll have to buy our own salt and throw it on the roads ourselves.
You do have a point there. It would be nice if the state went back to the way the road crews treated the roads where I grew up. All they ever used was sand and cinders. No salt. Hardly anyone got stuck and there was no salt to eat our cars, all though the sand did have a way of caking up in the wheel wells.

Man I'm glad I live in Florida....I like to drive year round..and yes I know what snow is like in the worse way..I lived in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan for 2 years!
What's this winter storage you guys speak of? We've got the Dixie Maverick Christmas party coming up in December.
