yep you need to put a 9 inch rear..I have a housing that uses you axles and backing plates and then purchase a 9 inch center and you will be good to go after that

YES IT WAS THE STAGE 3 CLUTCH THAT BROKE IT

    i got it fixed today

i went to a auto dismantler and bought the rear third member for 150

and he sed that it was a 3.25 gear out of a ranchero (?? year)

but it is a 1.75-1 gear ratio and that's the only one that i can find around me so i have to use it and it maid my gears 5-mph longer it went from 25 to 30 and 45 to 50 mph

and after i put every thing together i noticed that the third member does not have a fill hole so i had to pull a axle to fill it

so i will be going to the track wednesday (and not drop the clutch)

Agreed. Thats why I'll keep my C4. I can do less damage.:)
Almost went 4 speed in my first car but figured I'd grenade the 8 inch sooner or later and couldnt afford a nine inch.

    i went from a 3.00-1 to a 1.75 and gained 5 mph

so if i would have went to a 4.25-1 would i have lost 5 mph

i droped almost half of the ratio and it only has a 5 mph difference ???

im woried for your t5 also. ive see alot of them brake when a strong grabing cluch is used. i would not power shift it (where you dont lift off the gas when you shift). i kept my t5 in one pice by running a stock replacement clutch from the parts store that had a life time warentee. i would replace it every 6 months. the clutch would slip enough that you didnt put to much of a shock load into the trans. the clutch worked well till i was running low 12s to high 11s. then it would slip pretty bad and be stinking really bad after a run. then it was tremic trans time.

it only turns 1.75 times for 1 turn of the tire i even tested it by turning the tire on the other side

not sure if 1.75 is that gear but it is very close to that

i think that the place that i bought it from thought it was a 3.25- because thats what the car came stock with but they should have checked it

Only one tire is turning so you have to double the number - 3.50 if you were very accurate in your measurements.

and being an 8" would put it at 3.55.

    The common gears for the 8" are 2.79, 3.00, 3.25, 3.55, 3.80, 4.11
