Does anybody have any experience with the Summit brand of wheels/rims, some are pretty cheap priced and just wondering if you get a cheap product
you get what you pay for. what ones are you looking at. the wons that look like weld drag lites and drag stars have a recessed lug nut hole that takes an acorn type nut. it ends up looking wierd. they also make the center thicker for the different offsets. i suspect that they are heavyer than the welds also.
I think that they are steel opposed to aluminum. At least the ones that I've seen have been steel. My kid has a set on his car, I've got the real Welds on my car and they are about 1/4 the weight.
I sorta figured you are going to get what you paid for. I guess I am just going to have to bite the bullet and buy some American Racing wheels, I like the ones that they call Ultra61 with the solid center and rivits around inner edges, only problem I am having is I cant find any with a 4 1/2" backspace I know what you mean about those steel wheels those suckers weigh a ton I had a set Cragars Dragstars, and hated them everytime I went to put my slicks on.
my friend has a set ,of the look alike weld lites, they are fairly lite ,there is a difference in weight over the welds but not alot, the recessed lug does look different ,but there good wheels, his car is a 9 sec drag car ,hes happy with them
I have seen them on ALOT of cars and I don`t think that there is any quality problems with them. If you want a set I`d go ahead and get them if I were you .
True but sometimes you're paying for a name. Take a relay from Painless Wiring...Painless wants $11.75 for a single pole/single throw 30 amp Relay. You can buy a 30 amp Relay with the wiring socket for $5.95
... Whats the real story? I tried to find the weight of the summits and welds for comparison. Anybody know wear the actual weights are listed (or have a set not mounted they can weigh I agree that "You get what you pay for" doesn't always apply, but those relays come in different packaging, as the less expensive one has to be wired up and the painless relay is packaged with a blade plug so it would seem it should cost more and likely cost more to manufacture (assumption). Most Summit brand parts are made by the "Brand Name" companies, the Summit timing chain I bought had "Coyles" cast into it.
The less expensive relay plugs into a socket...the same way as the Painless relay. The other relay has the socket included. Painless will sell the socket for another $6.50. Both relays can be wired with spade connectors. The socket makes it easier to change relays and makes a cleaner professional install.
