My Maverick whirs when I press the clutch. So, I think the throw out bearing is going out. The Maverick is also a little choppy before warmed up when accelerating from stop in first gear.

I'm in the military and have access to the garage on base. They have lifts and all tools. They also have some knoweldgable mechanics who are willing to assist. I don't mind getting dirty, but I've never replaced a clutch before.

Should I buy a clutch kit and replace it all? Or should I only replace the throw out bearing? Or, should I pay someone else to replace it?

    Thanks,
    Jason

May want to get the flywheel resurfaced as well.Especially if it looks like an old brake rotor. Its good insurance against a chattering clutch.

Yep...I put an Autozone clutch kit in my 85 4x4 Ranger...it lasted 3 weeks before the pressure plate came unglude. I got to do two clutch repairs in one month. Too much work to replace it again with the same cheap kit so I bought a real clutch kit from Ford. I waisted money on the first kit trying to save a few dollars.

    Thanks for the assistance, guys.

I have a 1970 with 200 ci motor and 3 speed manual on the column.

I was looking at buying a clutch kit from either Napa or Carquest. Napa is about $40 cheaper.
