So a while back I got a nice 8" off of someone on craigslist for $150. I've had it in storage to save enough money to get it regeared and rebuild the right way. I didn't want a mediocre job by some shop that knows nothing about rear ends so I took it to Bryant's shop (San Diego Gear and Axle) today. Well, we got one axle out easy and the other would just not come out. Finally with some tricks up Bryant's sleeve he got it unstuck and yanked it out. It appears that the housing was bent up so he's gonna have it straightened. Gonna go with 3.25 gears and Auburn posi. Need a new bearing kit and axle bearings too. Gonna stick with drum breaks and just have Bryant rebuild them. Total bill, $1284 and that includes the labor which is pretty dang cheap in my opinion for anywhere in Cali. Here is the breakdown: 8" install, 3.25 and Posi ------- 210 3.25 Ring and Pinion ---------- 244 Auburn Posi 28S -------------- 474 Bearing Kit ------------------- 154 Straighten housing ----------- 100 Axke bearing ----------------- 102.70 sales tax --------------------- 95
Glad you're getting it done right. I'm sure Bryant will do a good job. I don't know anything about the price but I will say that having someone do the work, that you trust, is usually worth a lot also.
I passed over this thread 5 times not wanting to know what you were talking about. Curiosity finally got the best of me.
i had to pound on mo's rear end for almost an hour. i even heated it then lubed it. it just took alot of pounding with my big tools of persuassion .
Mo...As long as you didnt feel both of his hands on your shoulders at the same time...You should be fine...
glad to hear you got your rear end squared away, not many things that cant be fixed with a good pounding.never had tp pound on a rear though
Luv and pounding rear ends don't go in the same threads, not by a bunch of late night guys anyway :16suspect.
