I have an opportunity to get a free Mustang front end set up ie., rack and pinion, suspension, disc brakes etc. Will it work under the Maverick, now is the best time since I have everything out swapping my engine. Your opinions are much appreciated. Pro's & Con.
    Thanks

Heck, if it's free, just get it and see what you can do with it.

Are you talking factory Mustang parts or a Rack & Pinion kit? I'd use a kit instead of trying to make the factory stuff to work.

Here is my friend's website show what is involved on a 64 Ranchero. The Maverick is the same except for the measurements and steering box comes out different. http://loco4fomoco.com/MII.html

    Jeff,

I just looked at the web page and unfortunately they are installing a Mustang II setup which is completely different than the Fox Body Mustang strut suspension.

The page is very informative though! (y)

    Tony,

I'm hoping you find your answer as to if it'll work or not as I'm wanting to do the same thing with my Comet GT.

it will not bolt on to the mav. anything can always be done but that doesnt mean it can be done on the cheap or should be done. the first obivious problem is that the fox mustang rack an pinion sits in front of the front axle center line. the maverick stearing is behind the axle center line. this means the the mavericks steering arms are pointing to the rear of the car. if you put the mustang rack in behind the axle center line it would steer backwards. so if you want to put the whole fox mustang front suspension on you would have cut out alot of the stock frame work of the mav, locate the mustang k-member correctly in the car, relocate the shock towers and change the tops of them. if you are a master fabricater and chassie builder you could do this for really cheap, but you wouldnt have asked.
the rack and pinion on the fox mustangs starts leaking after awhile and have to be replaced. they are expensive. if the one that you can get doesnt leak you could probly sell it for a few bucks.

I thank you guys for all of the information that you have given, you bring up some interesting points which I have to take into consideration. I thought about this since I was swapping my engines and I have to do some modifications to fit the 351w. There are many more things to consider when getting into such a project, the shock towers being the obvious and modifying the steering box and repositioning some linkage. I try to gather as much information as possible to see what would be best as I proceed. I am actually a fabricator so that does not scare me away, I am a machinist by trade so there are a lot of things I can do on my own to cut cost. The mechanical aspect of the front-end is my weak point so that is what triggered the question. Bryant made some strong points when speaking of the positioning of the Fox body vs. the Maverick front end which begs the question, make sure you get as much information as possible before going full bore on this. I again appreciate all of the support you guys continually give.

    Thanks(y)

    It's doable if you're creative....

This is SN95 stuff. I made a make shift adapter for the SN95 ball joint and I'll build a rack mount for front steer position and should easily be into it for the price of a stock suspension rebuild.

Are you experiencing any bump steer with this setup? How is the turning radius?
